There is every reason in the world to shop online. The find is there. The selection is excessive. Shop is safe. Shipping is fast. Even returns are easy, with the right e-tailers. Shopping has never been easier or more convenient for consumers.
But how are the bad guys waiting? It happens. The FBI's own complaint for cybercrime says that the first cyber crime in 2017 was related to online shopping: non-payment or purchase of purchased goods. Phishing was third, but it was quite high during the second quarter of 2018, according to APWG's report on Phishing Activity Trends.
A recent PCMag survey asked if people had experienced a cyber attack like malicious code, credit card fraud or ransomware -A full 25 percent said they had.
Stay calm. While something alarming, this statistic should not keep you from shopping online. You simply need to use some common sense and follow practical advice. Here are basic guidelines; use them and you can shop with confidence when checking out things on that holiday shopping list.
