4 tips for getting the most out of your Xbox One Controller battery

Xbox One gamepad can be the best feature of Microsoft's current console. Its comfortable trigger, easy-to-access analog sticks and, most importantly, energy-efficient design make it possible to play games for weeks at a time without having to replace the batteries. But eventually your controller will die, and you will need to replace these AAs if you want to continue playing. Here are some tips to get the most out of your Xbox One batteries and how to play without using batteries at all.

Buy a charging battery

Unlike the PlayStation 4's DualShock 4 and Switch's Pro controller, the Xbox One does not use an internal battery. By default, standard AA batteries are required. You can use any type or brand, including higher capacity alkaline batteries, but the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly choice is a rechargeable nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery. They are less toxic when you dispose of them eventually, and unlike older nickel cadmium batteries, they do not develop the "battery memory". You can buy an Energizer 1

hour charger with four rechargeable batteries for 35 kronor and with space for all four in the charger a pair can always be ready to go when the other is empty.

If you want to spend a little less money, a basic charger is also available, which can charge the batteries for 7 to 13 hours, but the included batteries in this set are only 1300mAh – Energizer's NH15-2300 gives you almost double capacity and are compatible with the same charger.

Do not interfere with Play and Charge Kit

Microsoft sells a rechargeable battery specially made for the Xbox One, Xbox One Play and Charge Kit, which replaces your AA batteries with one lithium ion battery that you charge with a micro USB cable. If you connect the cable to the console, you can also connect the controller without synchronizing it wirelessly.

The rechargeable battery lithium ion battery can take up to 30 hours of battery life and charge in four hours. It's good, but it's nothing compared to what you can get with other rechargeable batteries. The charge and charge kit battery is just 1400mAh – just over the PlayStation 4 package – while AA alkaline batteries can go all the way up to 3000mAh.

It sounds good to use a charging cable instead of replacing batteries as well as it sounds. If you do not want to charge the battery exclusively via Xbox One, you need another charging block with a USB port. And of course, the battery pack is completely useless for anything other than your Xbox One controller.

Third-party charging stations can eliminate the need for another charger, but the battery is still not snuff. In just 1100mAh, it has a smaller capacity than even the cheapest AAA batteries, and it takes more than two hours to fully upload your package.

Play games with a wired connection

If you somehow managed to drain or destroy all your AA batteries, you still need not stop playing Xbox One. A wireless Xbox One controller can be converted to a wired controller by connecting it to the console with any micro USB cable. Unlike the Xbox 360, which would only charge wireless controllers over a connection, the connection of the controller in this way on the Xbox One actually allows data to be transmitted via the wired connection. While connected, the controller does not need the batteries to run, and will not drain any batteries in the controller. If you have a Play and Charge kit, the battery will charge.

In addition to being a good battery-saving option for those who live in smaller areas, it is also a better way to play games that are based on extremely fast reflexes, eg. as battle games or Dark Souls III . You will see a slightly reduced entry time and when you face an opponent in Injustice 2 or Dragon Ball FighterZ counts every millisecond.

Don't worry about leaving it on

Will Fulton / Digital Trends [19659018] With a certain setting adjustment, the PlayStation 4's DualShock 4 controller can stay indefinitely, even if you have left the console idle for hours at the end. The Xbox One controller, on the other hand, automatically shuts down after 15 minutes of inactivity to maintain battery life. You cannot change this setting, which can be a bit annoying if you look at Netflix and do not have a Kinect or a microphone connected to voice commands, but the control takes just a few seconds to reconnect after hitting the Home button.

If you use multiple controls and you need to check the battery levels, return to the home page of your Xbox One and press the home button for each control. The different battery levels are displayed, and you can see which ones are connected via USB and / or charge.
