Facebook's Portal Smart screen was designed to make people feel like they are in the same room, even when they are far apart.
I have to say, it's pretty darnt cool. The camera follows you when you walk around, and the sound quality is really decent.
If you just started with the portal, you do how to make your first video call and some tips for handling calls easier.
Who can you call?
First of all, it's important to understand that you can only call people you're connected to on Facebook or. Basically, you make Messenger video calls on a larger screen.
Do you want to call aunt Jenny with your portal? She needs a Facebook account.
Start a Call
To start a call, say "Hello, Portal." It will answer you with a beeping sound. Then say: "Call [contact name]." More than likely, Portal will allow you to call. Just tell the number shown above the person's Facebook image when the options appear on the screen.
If you do not want to talk to the portal to call, go to the home screen and touch the icon of the person you want to call. When their information box pops up, touch Call .
From there, just like when you call your phone on Messenger, you can turn off the video or sound by touching the microphone or camera icons on the screen.
Wear a Mask
Just like you do regular Messenger calls, you can use enhanced reality (AR) to add fun masks and filters to spice your conversations.
During a call, touch the gray Effects icon and then on the orange Effects icon . From there, you can select your filter or mask by pressing it. To turn off the effects, touch the Mask icon .
Close a call
Do you need to disturb your microphone during a call? Press the left button on the top of the screen. When a red light pops up, it means that the camera and microphone are turned off.
Of course, the person you speak will see you press the button, so do not think you're doing anything on that low.
Make Group Calls
You can invite up to six people to join a video call with you. To add more people, press the blue + icon while in a call or when you call. A friend list will appear at the bottom of the screen. Scroll right to find the person you are looking for and then tap their icon.
Transfer a call from your portal to your phone
If you are in a call but need to go to another room or head outside, you can transfer a port call to your phone, provided you have installed the Messenger app. Just open Messenger on your phone and touch Transfer Calls with [contact] at the top of the screen.
Headlines back to your portal? You can also transfer a call from your phone to the portal. Touch the transfer icon located at the top right of the Messenger call screen.
Call Only When You're Home
Do you want calls to your phone while on the go? Turn on home and away function.
To turn it on, go to the home screen and turn left. Then press Settings> Incoming Call Settings> Only When You're Home . Finally, go to your phone. A popup asks you if you want to go home and home. Confirm and you're ready to go.
This feature will use your mobile phone and your portal's location to automatically determine if you are at home or not. When you're gone, calls are sent to your phone only.
