Microsoft does not advertise any of its Surface hardware lines as bulletproof or even bulletproof. Nevertheless, an owner of Surface Book claims that he saved his life, after a bullet fired from a nearby apartment stored in the 2-in-1laptop. A dramatic photo posted on Twitter shows the round “caught” between the screen and the touchpad.
My laptop literally saved my life … Someone shot through the floor of my apartment building

It’s not easy to see what happened from the picture, and no one at Review Geek is a forensic ballistics expert. But @itsExtreme_ (who walks past Aaron) says the bullet entered his apartment through the floor. This would mean that it then came up through the removable bottom of the tablet, through the touchpad (note the cracked glass) and finally placed in the screen’s impact-resistant Gorilla Glass. It was probably closed then, with the loose bullet caught in between.
A commenter on Twitter gave a speculative and entertaining explanation:
For all the “ingenious” CSI experts who think you have to lie on your laptop for it to save you.
I present the theory of “a bit of an angle”. pic.twitter.com/SA7BrmcVPM

Aaron says he called the police, and apparently this was a case of an unintentional fire instead of some form of more violent incident. Still, it’s wonderful that the only damage was a nice laptop. Hopefully the person in charge will have a solid explanation to make to the local authorities. Even in the United States, it is considered a bad thing to accidentally shoot a gun into a neighbor’s home.
Aaron can have a happy ending from the scary experience. Among hundreds of responses to his tweet last week, the official Microsoft Store account asked him for an instant message. Maybe they’ll connect him to a newer, less perforated Surface Book.
