It’s been a while since Amazon’s Echo speakers and screens were reviewed, and even the latest iteration was just that ̵1; hardly a change. Well, it’s longer. Amazon completely revised the Echo family, with a new spherical design for the speakers and a screen that can move. And to support your connected home, Amazon also has two new Wi-Fi 6-powered Eero systems.
Starting with Echo Devices, Amazon revised the entire line from Dot to Plus (the latter is gone, but more on that in a moment).
All new Echo Design
In addition to the new sphere shape, the biggest change may be Echo and Echo Plus. You do not have to choose anymore. The standard $ 99 Echo now includes a ZigBee Radio. Bluetooth LE and Amazon Sidewalk. And bonus points, you still pay the same price as the old standard Echo.
You get better sound thanks to a 3.0-inch subwoofer, dual disks and Dolby processing. And just like Echo Studio, Echo will adjust its sound to best suit the room’s acoustics. If its speakers are not good enough, Amazon included a headphone jack that you can use to increase the volume. You can pre-order the new Echo now and it will be shipped on October 22nd.
Echo Dot also goes spherical and is available in two editions: $ 50 standard and $ 60 watch. Like the previous Echo Dot, you add an extra $ 10 to a set of LEDs that can display time.
The echo point looks a little bigger than the previous point, but you get a 1.6-inch front speaker that should be good enough for voice commands and some music. If you need better sound, you can use the device’s headphone jack to connect the speakers.
You can order Echo Dot today and it will be sent on October 22.
And Amazon did not forget children either. Like previous Echo Kids, the new hardware is an Echo Dot with a nice case. But this time it’s an adorable tiger or panda. You still get one year with FreeTime unlimited in your purchase. Echo Kids Edition costs $ 60, you can pre-order today and it will ship October 22nd.
If you prefer a screen, the new $ 250 Echo Show 10 should catch your eye. Although it does not take on a sphere design like the Echo speakers, it has a trick or two up its sleeve.
It rotates its screen to follow you around the room so you can always see it clearly. Like the new Echo, the Echo Show has 10 ZigBee, Bluetooth LE and Amazon Sidewalk, so it can almost work as a smart home hub.
You can not pre-order Echo Show 10 yet, but you can sign up for notifications when it is released.
To increase Alexa capacity, Amazon unveiled some new work it is doing with the digital assistant. Soon you will be able to create new commands with your voice. You say the command you have in mind, and when it does not understand, use another command that it knows. It teaches you what you mean.
Amazon is also working to make Alexa better at conversation, which requires less waking work and allows more than one person to talk to the digital assistant at a time.
Amazon also introduced two new subscriptions, Guard Plus and Care Plus, each for $ 5 per month. Guard Plus extends to existing Alexa Guard and listens for additional sounds, push warnings and plays sirens. Care Plus helps you monitor the home of another family member, such as an aging parent.
New Eero with Wi-Fi 6
Along with the new Echo offerings, Amazon announced two new Eero mesh kits. The new network kits have built-in Wi-Fi 6 for future-proof technology and ZigBee radios that act as smart hubs. You can get a single router for $ 129 or a router plus extender for $ 199. You can pre-order the Eero 6 today and it will arrive on November 2nd.
