Apple AirPods: How to use Find My iPhone to find your lost headphones

Apple's wireless earplugs are small and have zero strings or wires connected. And while it's cool, it means they are constantly at risk of getting lost. Soon after AirPods was launched, Apple added them to the Find My iPhone app, which is exactly where you need to go if you are looking for a lost AirPod or two.

Before we cover how to find a lost pod, there are some precautions you need to be aware of:

  • Finding my iPhone only works with your AirPods when the charging bag is open or AirPods is out of the question.
  • They must be within the Bluetooth range of an iOS device connected to your iCloud account to find the current location and play audio features to work.
  • If an iOS device is not within a lost AirPod area, find My iPhone showing the last known location.

After panic losing an AirPod flag, open Find My iPhone app on an iPhone or iPad. Your AirPods will appear below the list of devices linked to your iCloud account. Next to each device in Search My iPhone app becomes a colored point. Here's what each color means:

Touch the AirPods list to see their latest known or current location. At the bottom of the screen is a button labeled Actions .

Select Play Audio and then wait for the app to process your request. A few seconds later, both AirPods start playing a sound that is progressively higher. Again, your AirPods must either be in the case of the lid open or outside the bag to play any sound. If you have lost your case, with both AirPods inside it, you can see the last known location, but the audio feature does not work.

You can then turn off either AirPod, if you find one but need to continue looking for the other. Press Stop playing when you have found both AirPods.

If you lose an AirPod while using the other, do yourself a favor and remove AirPod from your ear. Both AirPods are beeping, even if they are in your ear. The sound is quite loud and can hurt. Alternatively, visit iCloud.com/find from your computer to find some lost AirPods.

What to do when you do not find your AirPod

If you do not find an AirPod, do not throw your case and the last remaining earbud. You can buy a single AirPod from Apple for $ 69. It's not cheap, but it's cheaper than having to pay full price. Apple publishes the replacement cost details and process on this support page.
