Apple announced AirPower in 2017 with a projected release in 2018. But that time came and joined Nary a word from Apple. Now, despite several reports and rumors on the contrary, the project has been canceled.
In a statement to TechCrunch, Apple Senior VP of Hardware Engineering Dan Riccio cited the inability to meet Apple's strict standards the reason for the suspension.  After much effort, we have come to the conclusion that AirPower does not meet our high demands and we have interrupted the project. We apologize to the customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and committed to driving the wireless experience forward.
The timing of this is quite wild, since only two weeks ago, speculation was wild when -not ] about -Apple would finally announce its release. Some sites even went so far as to speculate that it would be released on March 21 or 22 at the end of a long week of Apple messages.
It is clear that Apple had every intention of releasing the product because it referred to product packaging as recently as the recently updated AirPods, which was released last week. . Crazy
