Rescue Apps. If you need help calm down, these apps can help lift your spirits, or at least help you to temporarily forget about the outcome.
If you are seriously stressed, you can with focused breathing help you to the point where you feel real panic (or something close to it). True to its name, Breathe2Relax (Android, iOS) provides guided breathing exercises based on your stress level. The interface is a little clunky, but you get a lot of information and how to help with the exercises. It's a free app.
Meditation is one of the best ways to relax. There are countless apps designed to help you learn the practice, including 10% happier, calmer, headspace and – my longtime favorite – Buddhify.
Available for both Android and iOS and costing just a few dollars, the app contains more than 200 guided meditation tracks, all categorized by mood or activity: traveling, going to bed, feeling stressed and so on. Most lessons range from 5-10 minutes, so they are easy to incorporate into your day. There is a membership option ($ 30 a year) that unlocks more features, but it is not necessary.
Does self hypnosis work? HelloMind has got a 4-star average from both Android and iOS users, indicating that the app mostly delivers its promise to help you fight fear, anxiety, stress and other issues.
A "treatment" for such a problem consists of 10 sessions, each lasting about half an hour. Your goal is to complete them within 30 days. HelloMind costs $ 13 for an unlimited monthly subscription or $ 120 for an annual.
Yep: read a book. Studies have shown that reading for pleasure can increase empathy (as I would say is vital right now), improve relationships, reduce the symptoms of depression and even help you sleep better. Be sure to enable "night mode" on your phone or tablet, so watch the screen do not disturb your sleep.
Of course, it does not have to be the Kindle app. what e-book app will do. The idea is simply to sink into a lot of fiction and forget your problems in the process.
Music calms the wild beast – it can also lower blood pressure, relieve stress, help you sleep better and more, according to a 2014 study. So drop on some headphones, look up Pandora (or your favorite music app optional) and light on any Bach, Beethoven, Mozart or the like.
Your smartphone and a cheap VR headset can transport you far away (virtually) from reality. For example, Provata VR offers iOS guided mindfulness meditations available in a variety of appealing locations: beaches, waterfalls, even underwater drives. You can enjoy some content for free, but the subscription costs $ 3.99 per month or $ 36 annually.
Android users can check Relax VR: Rest & Meditation (iOS), a similar experience, but with photo-realistic (rather than computer-generated) locales. It's $ 2.99.
If you happen to own a Samsung Gear VR headset, you can escape from a number of amazing experiences to help you relax. I'm partial to Country's End VR, which is part of the puzzle game and part-session session. Seriously, it's so calm and relaxing, you might just want to sit in your favorite comfortable chair and hang out, puzzles are condemned.
