Are you using Windows 10? How to run Android apps on your computer

An update to the Your Phone app means that some Android phones can now run apps on Windows 10 computers.

Some Android phone users can now access Android mobile apps directly from their Windows 10 ($ 158 on Amazon) PC, thanks to an update of the app Your Phone that Microsoft rolled out to the public in August.

The update, first announced below Samsung unpacked Event on August 5, you can pin your favorite Android mobile apps to the Taskbar or Start menu on your Windows 10 computer for quick and easy access. The apps open in separate windows from the Your Phone app, so you can use them in much the same way as on your phone. With many people still working from home because of coronavirus pandemic, the ability to access phone apps on a larger desktop or laptop screen, with a mouse, pen or touch screen, can help with multitasking.

Although the feature is generally rolling out now, it is currently available for Samsung Galaxy phones. Find the full list of supported phones on the Microsoft Support Web site.

What does it take to run Android apps on your Windows 10 computer?

In addition to a Samsung Galaxy phone (at least for now) you need a computer running the Windows 10 October 2019 update or later. Check which version you are running on your computer by going to settings > Updates and security > Check for update. (If you need to upgrade, you can still download Windows 10 for free.)

You also need the latest version of the app Your Phone and Link to Windows. On your phone, you need to run Android 9.0 or later with the Link to Windows integration.

Finally, your phone and computer must be on the same Wi-Fi network for the feature to work.
