Best Prime Day Router and Wi-Fi Deals Still Available: Save on Eero

This story is part of Amazon Prime Day, CNET’s guide to everything you need to know and how to make sure you get the best deal possible.

Amazon Prime Day 2020 may be over, but we’re keeping track best discounts still available, and you can still get a great deal in wireless networking from Eero.

The offers apply to each of Amazon’s new network router systems, Eero 6 and Eero Pro 6. As the names suggest, both systems offer full support Wi-Fi 6, and all also include a built-in Zigbee hub for connecting things like smart locks and smart lamps to your home network. Neither system will ship until early November, but you can pre-order them right now ̵

1; and in any case, Amazon will be throwing in a couple of free devices to sweeten the pot.

Anyway, let’s go to the offers, which I update regularly when things come in and run out of stock.

Wi-Fi 6: What is it?

Offers are alive now

The cost of a three-part Eero 6 system with the router and two line-extending satellite devices is $ 279. That system won’t hit stores until early November, but if you’re willing to pre-order, you can currently get it bundled with a free Echo Dot and two free Philips Hue lamps. Total cost: still $ 279, which is a lot of a deal.

Thanks to the new Zigbee hub in the Eero router, you will be able to pair these Hue lamps directly with your home network and with Alexa, this is where the free Echo Dot comes in. From there, you will be able to turn the lights on and off, adjust brightness and color temperature, or activate your favorite lighting scenes with a quick voice command to Amazon’s assistant.

A few things to keep in mind, though. First, while this deal gives you the new Wi-Fi 6 version of Ero’s network router, you’ll not get the latest Echo Dot with its new spherical design. Instead, you get the previous, puck-shaped model from 2018. No biggie there.

Second, the two Hue lamps are Hue White Ambiance LEDs. This means that they can change color temperatures on the white light spectrum, with shades ranging from a yellowish, light-like glow to warmer, more bluish-white daylight tones. However, they can not change the colors of the RGB spectrum – so no green, blue, pink, purple, red or anything like that. It’s a bit ridiculous, but at least the new Eero routers do it so you do not need a Hue Bridge if you just control them via the Alexa app. Read our first shoot of Eero 6.

Meanwhile, if you’d rather upgrade to the more advanced Eero Pro 6 system, which also comes out in November, you can currently find the $ 599 bundle bundled on Amazon with a free Fire TV Cube, which usually sells for $ 120 on your own . That router can beat higher top speeds than the standard Eero 6 listed above, and the triband design has an additional 5 GHz band that you can devote to system transfers between the router and extender. This is the best approach for fast, advanced networking, as our tests repeatedly show. Adding a free Fire TV Cube also helps reduce the sting of the higher asking price. Want a three-part router, but don’t feel like spending hundreds on a fancy Wi-Fi 6 system? Think of last year’s version of Eero, as the 3-pack sells for $ 75 off during Prime Day. Like I said, there is no support for Wi-Fi 6 (and no free Philips Hue lights or Echo speakers), but it’s still a perfectly capable system for people with ISP speeds of less than 500 Mbps. A well-tested network router with two extenders for just under $ 200 is a steal. Read our Eero (2019) review.

Look, do not ask me to say it, but Ziyituod’s AX3000 PCIe card can provide full speed Wi-Fi 6 support for your laptop, and it’s available on Prime Day for $ 25, which is about as cheap as a card. this is coming. With support for 160 MHz channels and top speeds of up to 2400 Mbps on the 5 GHz band, it makes it easy to work with incoming connections and helps your laptop stay up to date with the newest and fastest routers on the market.

For compatibility, you need a computer running 64-bit Windows 10 or a Linux distribution such as Ubuntu, as well as an F_USB connector on your motherboard. According to the list, it will work with both Intel and AMD processors as well as PCI-E X1, X4, X8 and X16 slots.

OK, so we’m only talking about a $ 7 discount here, but still it takes the price of a working dual-band router down to just $ 28. With the best 5 GHz speeds of around 900 Mbps, it’s not fast enough for gigabit connections, but the TP-Link hardware works reliably well in our tests, and the simplified controls in the Tether app for Android and iOS devices make the installation a movie. If you just need something cheap to monitor until you are ready for a major upgrade to Wi-Fi 6, this should get the job done.

Want a little more oomph? The Archer A7, which raises the top speed of the 5 GHz band to 1.3 Gbps and also provides support for Alexa voice controls, is sold today for $ 52.

If you want a budget router that feels a little more sophisticated than the last budget choice, consider spending on the D-Link DIR-1360-US, which is marked below $ 50 for Prime Day. I have not tested this specific model, but other D-Link routers in the same family as the excellent DIR-867 impressed me with speeds that are faster and more reliable than you expect for what they cost. At $ 48, this looks like a strong value choice, and it adds support for MU-MIMO connections and support for Alexa and Google Assistant voice controls as well.

Do you want more speed? You have more options. Up first is the DIR-1960-US, which can reach speeds of up to 1.3 Gbps. The $ 30 Prime Day rebate lowers the price to $ 70. You can also save $ 35 on the game-centric DIR-2660-US, which raises the 5 GHz speed limit to 1.7 Gbps – down to $ 84 for Prime Day.

Meanwhile, this Netgear AC1600 router is priced at $ 56 for Prime Day, saving $ 24. It’s a touch faster than some of the other budget choices sold today, with a top speed of 1.3 Gbps on the 5 GHz band. It can make it a decent choice if you pay for gigabit internet and you just want a simple router that can beat the highest speeds.

The AX6000 version of Netgear’s popular Orbi network router has a triband design with two 5 GHz bands, as well as full support for Wi-Fi 6. It is one of the fastest and most impressive mesh routers I have ever tested, and it does it does not come cheap, with a two-piece system that usually sells for $ 700. Now, for Prime Day, you can get a three-part with the router and two satellite devices for the same price, saving $ 300. It covers up to 7500 square meters with a fast, reliable connection. Read our Netgear Orbi AX6000 review.

If you want to upgrade to a triband router with a 2.4 GHz band, a 5 GHz band and Other 5 GHz band, then this Prime Day offer for Netgear Nighthawk X6S may be right up your alley. It does not support Wi-Fi 6, but it is about as powerful as Wi-Fi 5 routers get, and can beat gigabit speeds on both 5 GHz bands. At the $ 180 selling price, you save $ 100.

Offers I would skip

It does not support the latest Wi-Fi 6 speeds, but still Asus has a very strong record in our gaming router tests – and this model, GT-AC5300, is a behemoth among the Wi-Fi 5 crop, at least in terms of specifications. With eight antennas in an eye-catching array, it’s about as impressive as the routers are, and the triband design lets you dedicate an entire 5 GHz band to your priority game traffic while leaving the other 5 GHz band free for your regular network traffic.

At a Prime Day price of $ 245, it’s available for more than $ 100 less than the regular list price, but here’s the thing: Last time I tested a large number of game routers, I included the Wi-Fi 6 version of this router in the mix – and it did not win. The top spot went instead to the cheaper Asus RT-AC86U with dual bands – and Asus just released a follow-up of that router with support for Wi-Fi 6. The new model, RT-AX86U, costs $ 250 – – only $ 5 more than this offer – and it looked very impressive in our early speed tests, especially when it comes to handling latency. If I was looking for a new gaming router I would skip this offer and just buy it at full price instead. Read our Asus RT-AX86U for the first time.

It’s not a Prime Day deal in itself, but Google recently gave its original network Wi-Fi system a price reduction, reducing the cost of a three-part Google Wifi installation to $ 200. That’s a fair price for this well-reviewed system. , but I want to see it sold for even less given that it’s about four years old right now. There’s also a pretty good chance we’ll see a Black Friday sale on the newer, faster Nest Wifi, which debuted just last year. If you are looking for a network router from Google, this is probably a deal worth the wait.

It’s also possible that Google may debut a new, Wi-Fi 6 version of Nest Wifi here at the last minute before the holiday season begins, but I don’t think that’s likely given that Google’s latest Pixel phones, Nest speakers and Chromecast streamers skipped Wi-Fi 6 altogether. Still, I think you can find better deals than this at this time of year. Read more on CNET.
