Best Prime Day TV Deals: Save $ 60 on Toshiba 32-inch Fire TV, Save $ 1000 on a 65-inch Sony OLED

This story is part of Amazon Prime Day, CNET’s guide to everything you need to know and how to make sure you get the best deal possible.

Amazon Prime Day 2020 is now underway and will run through today, Wednesday, October 14. If you want to get a good price on a new TV, the event includes steep discounts on large and small screens, from brands such as Sony and Samsung, as well as lesser-known brands including Element and Westinghouse. Also, don’t forget the Roku deals. In an unusual twist this year, however, many of the best deals on TVs are not at all on Amazon, but instead on Best buy, Walmart, Target and Sam̵

7;s Club.

We will continue to update this story with the latest Prime Day specials in this category as more specials become available.

Best Prime Day TV Deals to date

Update Wednesday 14 October: As of noon, new blockbuster TV deals on Amazon are still few and far between. The $ 120 32-inch Fire TV is a good deal, but not as good as the (now sold-out) 32-inch Roku TV at Walmart. A 43-inch Fire TV for $ 200 also sold out at that price. The best bargains still available on cheap TVs are available at Walmart and Target, and you’ll still find excellent prices on advanced models at Best Buy, including a Sony OLED and a large Samsung.

JVC

If you want to get a TV for under $ 100, the JVC’s LT-32MAW205 may just be the ticket. After all, this 32-inch HD TV (it has a 720p resolution) has Roku built-in, so when you consider what you would spend on a Roku media player, it’s like you get the TV for $ 70 or so. This set has three HDMI inputs, USB and a series of audio and video connections.

Normally $ 130 you can save about 24% on sales, as long as stocks last.

Toshiba

We move on to TVs that are actually sold by Amazon, first this Fire TV Edition (model 32LF221U21) from Toshiba. We did not love the 2019 version of this TV because its Fire TV menus drive the Amazon content too much and are more confusing in general compared to the simplicity of Roku TV. But it has built-in Alexa, and maybe it’s worth another $ 20 over the JVC above.

Element

This element is a 50-inch 4K TV with HDR that, just like the JVC above, runs our favorite smart TV operating system, the Roku TV. It has a trio of HDMI inputs. This price is the lowest for a 50-inch smart TV we’ve seen so far during Prime Day, beating the previous champion, a JVC Roku TV at Walmart, by $ 18.

Westinghouse

Do you know a pattern here? Again, the best price in a certain size on Prime Day is not at Amazon or on a Fire TV (yet) but on another brand and another retailer Roku TV. As with the models above, what we like about this model is the Roku operating system and the cheap price.

So far, the TVs on this list are ingenious models without the types of picture quality features that make good video, including high dynamic range, really shine. Vizio’s M-Series comes with full-array local dimming that improves contrast and brightness. We have not reviewed this TV yet and although we do not expect it to work as well as the TCL 6 series, it is quite cheaper, especially during this sale.

The price below is for the 65-inch model but Sam’s Club also has the 55-inch at $ 429, also a $ 50 discount. Read more about the Vizio M-Series 2020.

The first TV on this list that we have reviewed, the 65-inch XBR-X900H is at the lowest price ever, down from the original list price of $ 1600 and now only $ 100 more than the competing TCL 6 series. This excellent Sony delivers the Android TV operating system as well as outstanding picture quality and the kind of next-generation connections that surpass Roku and other similarly priced devices – just in time for the new Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Sure, it’s a big step up in price from the other three here, but the savings are also huge.

Update: Sony has also dropped the price of 75 inches to $ 1600, which is a saving of $ 900. And while both sizes seem to be sold out on Amazon, they are still available on Best Buy. Read our Sony XBR-65X900H review.

Sony

If Sony above is a good TV, this one is even better. This is because it uses OLED technology, which in our tests provides significantly better picture quality than any of the non-OLED TVs out there. We have not reviewed the A8H, but based on experience, we believe it will be almost as good as the best OLED TV we have reviewed – the LG CX – for $ 700 less at the 65-inch size. The A8H is at a low level at major retailers now, including Amazon and Best Buy, with 65-inches (listed below) at $ 1800 and 55-inches at $ 1300.

Samsung

Samsung’s QLED is not as good as OLED, but this TV is much bigger and cheaper than Sony above. Q60T is Samsung’s cheapest QLED series and lacks image quality benefits such as full-array local dimming. We have not reviewed the Q60T but based on the specifications, we doubt that it will work as well as TVs like the 75-inch TCL 6 series. On the other hand, this price puts $ 200 less than TCL, so if you care more about size than top image quality, it’s worth considering.
