The DC FanDome will feature a teaser for director Zack Snyder’s much-maligned Snyder Cut from the 2017 film Justice League.

Warner Bros.

This year’s virtual Comic Con is in the books, but another virtual fan convention is underway now. DC FanDome takes place in two parts – the first runs for 24 hours, starting at 10 PT this Saturday 22 August. Second half follows 12 September.

The event, aimed at fans of DC Comics, includes panels online, cosplay, fan art and series, as well as special events for children. The dedicated DC fandom will be especially excited to look at some long-awaited DC features, including Snyder Cut of Justice League, Robert Pattinson as The Batman and James Gunns The Suicide Squad.

What is it?

Kinda likes Comic-Con, but only for DC. So no avengers (it’s Marvel). But if you’re a fan of DC characters like Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman and Aquaman, you want to tune in. And this fandom event should go far beyond the big names. It covers the entire DC world, from series to movies to TV shows and video games.

Unfortunately, the convention follows reports of mass redundancies at DC. About a third of the company’s editorial staff lost their jobs, according to The Hollywood Reporter, along with the majority of streaming service staff DC Universe as the parent company Warner Bros. shifts its focus to the newly launched HBO Max.

How do I tune in?

There are video panels and teasers online to watch, links to follow for games and shopping and more. Warning: Unlike virtual Comic-Cons, which are spread over days, the DC FanDome is only 48 hours long, allowing for two jam-packed event days. So if this is your thing, do not make other plans for August 22 and September 12.

“Just like a live event, the entire DC FanDome experience will be available for only 24 hours,” warns the FanDome FAQ list. “If you do not watch it for 24 hours, you will miss it (unless you have access to time travel).”

DC has announced that the center of the experience will be called the Hall of Heroes. The programming is an eight-hour block, which will run three times during the 24-hour timeline, so they can tune into different global time zones.

Hall of Heroes will feature programming, panels and content revealing from all over DC. There will be smaller satellite worlds, such as KidsVerse, that can be navigated to from there. Programming will be available in Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.

Who will be there?

DC announced a long list of hosts, presenters and special guests. The list includes Aisha Tyler, Venus Williams, Will Arnett, Idris Elba, Ezra Miller, Jason Isaacs, Kaley Cuoco, Matt Reeves, Michael Rooker, Robin Wright, Viola Davis and Henry Winkler.

Biggest events

You can read the full DC FanDome schedule online, but here are some highlights:

Wonder Woman: 1984

The Stars of the Wonder Woman sequel, including Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, joins director Patty Jenkins during a panel where a new look at the film along with a Wonder Woman 1984 trailer debuted.

Gotham Knights

The developer behind Batman: Arkham Origins unveiled its new game, Gotham Knights, a co-op adventure with Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl and Red Hood as they protect Gotham City after Batman’s apparent death. They will meet a villainous group known as the Court of Owls and other members of Dark Knight’s rogues gallery.

The lightning

The panel unveiled Barry Allen’s new suit, which was made by Batman. Director Andy Muschietti and screenwriter Christina Hodson also confirmed that the speedster film will see Flash travel through time to change DC Multiverse.

We also received tips that this opens up the possibility of going through classic DC movies, with Danny Elfman’s Batman theme played in the background. Concept art also showed that Flash collaborated with Michael Keaton’s version of Dark Knight – The Batman logo 1989 can be seen on his suit.

In a separate panel, Arrowverse CEO Greg Berlanti also said he wants to include more DC movie characters in future TV show transitions after Ezra Miller’s Flash met Grant Gustin’s version of the character during last year’s crisis on infinite soils.

Concept art for Flash seems to show him collaborating with Michael Keaton’s Batman.

The suicide group

James Gunn revealed each character in his upcoming film, Suicide Squad. Idris Elba plays Bloodsport; wrestling actor John Cena plays Peacemaker; and Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson plays Blackguard.

He also shared a new teaser consisting of some movies and behind the scenes glimpses of the girl.

Earlier this month, Gunn tweeted that “I can confirm that the suicide squad is 100%, zero interference, nothing holds-barred ME, and, again, I can not wait for you to get a glimpse of it on the DC FanDome. FanDome pimps a lot, but that’s because I know how exciting it will be – for my movie and other things too!) “

The suicide group, about a crew of DC villains, is supposed to come out in 2021. Gunn wrote and directed the first two Guardian of the Galaxy movies for Marvel, but signed on for The Suicide Squad after Marvel fired him briefly for colored tweets. Producer Peter Safran has said that the suicide group is not a direct sequel to the original film 2016 The suicide group, although it contains many recurring characters played by the same actor. The similarities between the titles are confusing, but the other film uses “The” in its title.

Snyder Cut

The DC movie Justice League came out in 2017, but the original director Zack Snyder interrupted during the editing when his daughter died. Some fans were disappointed with the finished film taken over by Joss Whedon, and climbed to see what Snyder would have put together if he had had free rein. Snyder Cut is the movie that will be coming soon HBO Max and the teaser trailer for DC FanDome promises a glimpse of the long-awaited version.
Panel: August 22, 14:30 PT, Hall of Heroes

Black Adam

Who is black Adam? The fictional villain / anti-hero has a long history in DC Comics, but his name may not be so well known to casual fans. He is an archenemy of Captain Marvel / Shazam, and his powers have ancient Egyptian roots. Star Dwayne Johnson will attend a question-and-answer session.
Panel: August 22, 15:10 PT Hall of Heroes

Aquaman

While Jason Momoa turned Aquaman from a Saturday morning cartoon into an aquatic badass in the 2018 film, it looks like the actor will not be on this panel. But director James Wan and Momoo’s co-star Patrick Wilson, who played King Orm, will dive into their favorite moments from the first film.
Panel: August 22, 16:05 PT, Hall of Heroes

The Suicide Squad video game

Want to know more about The Suicide Squad? Rocksteady Studios tweeted that it will use the DC FanDome to release information about one new Suicide Squad video game. The British gaming company created the popular Batman: Arkham video game series. Will Arnett host the revelation.
Panel: August 22, 17:10 PT, Hall of Heroes

Batman

Matt Reeves, director of The Batman, has announced that he will share more about the film. Batman stars Robert Pattinson of Twilight Fame, with Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman. The film is not scheduled to be released until 2021, but it is already got a spinoff show about the Gotham Police Department, with Reeves producing.
Panel: August 22, 5:30 p.m. PT, Hall of Heroes

What’s up with the September event?

On September 12, DC will offer a second virtual event starting at 10:00. It will be called DC Fandome: Explore the Multiverse, and instead of just a rolling schedule of panels, fans can choose their own schedule from the on-demand selection of panels.
