Eating healthy on vacation: 7 tips that don't mean skipping dessert

A vacation is great for your mind, body and soul – but sometimes not so good for your wallet and sugar intake. Taking a week off from work can feel like a free pass to enjoy all the food you can, but when you're back in the office, the damage to your bank account and waist can be scary.

Fortunately, you can actually eat healthy (ish) on vacation while still having fun ̵

1; and you don't even skip the dessert . I'll tell you everything you need to know to live your best life on vacation and feel better when you do.

first Be smart on the aircraft

Bringing your own snacks on the aircraft will save a lot of money and calories.


Universal Yums

I often get extremely bored on airplanes and start snacks because I have nothing else to do. But aircraft food is too expensive and usually loaded with salt, so filling yourself with the flight will only begin your vacation on a bad note.

Instead, skip the $ 16 bags of Chex Mix at the airport newsstand and eat a pre-packaged snack. But please, for everyone's sake, don't bring hard-boiled eggs or tuna in a cramped cabin. Suitable options include homemade track mix, a turkey sandwich, fruit, dark chocolate, a grilled chicken wrap or quinoa and bean salad. Remember, if you bring something like yogurt or salad dressing, TSA will consider it a liquid – so pack less than 3.4 ounces of it.

2nd Use your hotel to your advantage

If you stay in a hotel that offers a free continental breakfast, you're in luck. Choose low-sugar foods to avoid an afternoon energy crash – unfortunately, that means skipping the fluffy Belgian waffles. Cheerios, yogurt and fruit, and whole grain bread with peanut butter are all good choices that will last you all day.

Try to grab a few extra pieces of fruit to sip on all day, or even make yourself a PB&J sandwich to pocket. This way you can avoid spending extra money on unnecessary and unhealthy snacks.

If you live in an Airbnb or a difficult hotel with a kitchen you are in even better shape. Fill eggs, sausage, whole grain toast and fresh fruit for easy breakfast. If you eat a nutritious meal in the morning you will feel good throughout the day and more likely you will continue to make healthy choices .

3rd Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Sometimes when I travel, the disruption of my daily routine makes me forget to drink water. Holidays are a perfect recipe for dehydration – a reduction in water intake combined with extra walks, rich food and warm sun is sure you will feel lethargic and confused. In addition, we often confuse dehydration with hunger, so you may be eating unnecessary food when your body really wants a high glass of water.

To ward off dehydration carry a reusable water bottle with you and try to refill it a few times during the day. Order water instead of soft drinks at restaurants to save money and excess sugar, and alternative alcoholic beverages with a glass of water if you choose to taste. At the end of the day, your body and wallet will thank you.

4th Think of the appetizers

If you are in Italy, do not skip bruschetta.

Unless the restaurant serves the best fucking olive oil and bread you have ever tasted, you can avoid the basic appetizers that you can order at restaurants close to home.

Try to order dishes native to the country you are in – this is likely to be the best version you have ever tasted. If you are on holiday in Italy, do not skip the bruschetta. But instead of everyone ordering their own early snack, share each dish with one or two other people. You must save space for the main course and dessert.

5th Order the family in desserts

Don't worry – I won't say that you skip the desserts while on vacation. I could not advise I will not follow myself. But many restaurant disadvantages are gargantuan, and that a lot of sugar can only leave you feeling joking and uncomfortable.

Instead, choose two or three of the nicest desserts and order them with several spoons. Everyone at the table gets to try all the delicious alternatives, and no one is left with stomach ache. And the same rule for appetizers applies – skip the Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream. I'm almost sure they sell it at a grocery store near you.

6th Go instead to take a cabin

<p>  With the rise of Uber and other travel-sharing services, <span class= transportation is much cheaper than it used to be. There is still extra money that you do not necessarily need to spend. If you can manage and the destination is close enough, you may want to consider using your own two feet to get there – just make sure you wear comfortable shoes.

Walking around helps you exercise without hitting the gym and also burns some of the calories from all the delicious food you've eaten. Hopefully you will not control the scale on holiday, but staying active will reduce the damage you can see when you get home.

7th Do Not Stop Your Schedule

Have you ever been on a vacation with an itinerary packed from 8am to 8pm? No one wants to miss seeing the sights in an exotic place, but a busy schedule is more likely to stress you out . And if you're anything like me, all the stress and frustration of rushing from place to place will make you mindlessly shoot down all the food you can.

Try to cut down your schedule enough to give yourself some little breathing room . If you are an introvert, make sure you leave room for a solitary time to charge . Define clear times of day that are meant for meals and remove distractions when it's time to eat. You should not be with your phone at the dinner table.

When you take the time to relax and enjoy your food, you eat more carefully and generally take only the nutrition your body can handle. This helps you from eating unnecessary calories and spending extra money on food you don't really want anyway.
