There are many apps that can translate text on websites and even in the real world. But when you need to write a message in a language that you do not speak, it is your keyboard that will be practical best.
Google Translate is integrated into Gboard, so you can translate as you type. But it is disconnected by default on Android, so here you find it.
Touch a text field to bring up Gboard and then select the three points in the menu bar above the keyboard. Select "Translate" and accept the permission. To make it easier in the future, you can long press Translate and drag it to the menu bar so that it is always visible above the keyboard.
Select the language in the toolbar that appears at the top and just start typing. Your writing will be translated in real time, so it will appear in the destination text in the language you have chosen without you having to do anything else.
