Google released Android 11 today, Tuesday, September 8th. The new update follows seven months of beta testing, which began with development preview 1 of 19 February.
Google released the new update at 10 PDT. While Android 11 surprisingly came to Pixel devices first, Google’s smartphones are not the only ones getting the update today. In addition, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Oppo and Realme devices will all see an upgrade.
Android 11 includes a ton of new and exciting features, including smart home controls in the power menu, a dedicated quick-setting media player, a new resized picture-in-picture mode, and pop-up chat bubbles for chats, to name a few.
To update your compatible Android device to Android 11, open Settings and then go to System -> Advanced -> System Update. Press the “Check for updates” button and it should be downloaded immediately. It seems that Google is not making a staged launch with this one – all six pixels we have tested so far received the update immediately. So just follow the on-screen instructions to download and install Android 11.
