Google’s Wear OS platform gets an update after a long drought. Smartwatch OS has been without significant updates or new features for over a year. But that is changing; Google plans to update Wear OS to improve performance, simplify pairing and add weather and hand wash updates.
Wear OS has not seen the assumption that Google wanted. Unfortunately, Wear OS devices tend to be slow and fancy, and both the hardware and the operating system are to blame. The good news is that Wear OS will see better processors soon. The better news is that Google says it will update Wear OS to perform better.
The company says the next update of Over The Air (OTA) will simplify the pairing process and make it faster to access information and apps. Between updates and CPU enhancements, users can expect a 20% faster improvement in app startup time.
But faster speed is not the only thing the OTA update will provide. Google also renews the weather experience. The new design allows you to see weather info quickly. You get an hourly distribution of the weather, important weather warnings and more.
The latest update also includes a hand wash timer. Fighting the current global pandemic is a multi-step process, and washing your hands long enough is an important step. The new timer should be a little more accurate than singing happy Birthday twice.
