Google tests emoji responses for its messaging app – Review Geek

Google's messaging app takes text to a new level with writing indicators, read receipts and other live "chat" features. Google is now testing emoji responses in the Messages app, a feature already familiar to Facebook and iMessage users.

The Emoji Response Messages feature was first noted by Reddit users and reported by Android Police. After pressing a message for a long time, you can choose from seven reaction emojis, including thumbs up, hearts, laughs, surprised, crying, angry and thumbs down. Whatever emoji you choose will appear next to the message you are responding to.

Emoji responses only work while RCS chat features are enabled in the Messages app. Users who have not enabled chat features will see emoji responses as standalone messages, similar to how iMessage responses work for Android users.

Google has not formally announced its new emoji response feature, which is currently available to members of the Messages Open Beta program. Regular messaging users are likely to see emoji reactions after a short period of beta testing.
