Getting phone calls has turned into a modern scam with spam and spam. If a call comes in and it is not in your contact list, it is easiest (and perhaps wisest) to ignore it. But it̵7;s not always a good option – what if you expect a delivery or interview request? Google wants to help by verifying callers.
While carriers like T-Mobile work with technology to catch fake numbers, Google’s effort goes a different way. It works with companies to verify calls.
The company will send their phone number to Google and even give a reason to call. When the company calls you, you see the company name, the reason you are calling, and a verified Google logo. The company needs to verify with Google to take advantage of it.
It’s a healthy idea that will hopefully prevent you from missing important calls from companies you need to hear from, while still ignoring the rest of the calls that are probably spam. You need an Android phone with Google’s phone calling app.
Many Android phones are pre-installed with the app and the company will release the app as a standalone caller later this week so that more users can download it.
