Android 11 introduced a number of changes, but one that can catch your eye is how screenshots work. The functionality is mostly the same as older versions of the operating system (OS), but Google moved around a bit. Here̵

7;s how screenshots work on Android.

How to take a screenshot on Android

Take a screenshot on Android 11 and newer works mostly similar to all older versions of the operating system, but one option has been moved. In addition to holding down the Power and Volume Down physical buttons together, the screenshot shortcut that used to appear in the Power menu has been moved to the “Overview” menu (aka Recent Apps).

To access the shortcut, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause to open the overview menu.

Press the “Screenshot” button in the lower left corner.

This immediately takes a screenshot and takes up a screenshot thumbnail of the “Share” and “Edit” image options.

Where are the screenshots on Android?

When you take a screenshot in Android 11 and later, it appears in a thumbnail in the lower left corner along with options for “Share” and “Edit” image. After a few seconds, the thumbnail disappears.

Here people can get a little confused. Screenshots are no longer displayed in the message shadow. This means that if you do not take action on the thumbnail pop-up window before it disappears, you will need to find the screenshot in your photo gallery or file manager.

Screenshots are usually saved in the “Screenshots” folder on your device. For example, to find your photos in the Google Photos app, navigate to the “Library” tab.

Under the “Photos on Device” section, the “Screenshots” folder is displayed.

No matter what photo gallery or file management app you use, look for “Screenshots” in the root storage section of your device.

Some things were replaced and adjusted, but screenshots on Android 11 and later work basically the same as they did in previous versions of the operating system. The changes may be a little jarring at first, but they should feel like second nature in no time.
