Original Galaxy Fold is at best an ambition. The idea of a phone becoming a tablet attracts, but the hardware was simply not snuff. Between failed review units and a small external display, it was the flagship you should skip. Now running Galaxy Z Fold-bay two solves some of these problems.
Close the original $ 2,000 trap, and you̵7;re out of sight. The external screen is small and surrounded by ginormous frames. At best, you would check notifications, but you do not want to write it. Open the device, and you will get strange dimensions thanks to six cameras and odd places.
With Z Fold 2, Samsung tried to address these issues. The external screen is much larger now at 6.2 inches and looks useful. And the internal screen’s six cameras are gone, with a hole punch camera in place. That screen now extends 7.6 inches (measured diagonally) and looks like a huge improvement.
However, these are not the changes. While Samsung says it has completely renewed the hinge, it still has a gap at both ends. This means that you may have to deal with dust or other foreign particles. The company says it has new technology to prevent this result and based on the brushes you can find in vacuum.
Samsung says that the inner Ultra-Thin Glass layer is covered by a redesigned set of layers that maximizes durability while maintaining flexibility, but time will tell if all changes make a difference.
If you do not like folds, it has not changed either, and it is obvious directly from the phone’s wallpaper. Like the original, it is artificial with some comfortable negative space where the folds would show.
The phone is powered by a 4500 mAh battery and supports 25 W fast charging, 11 W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. The last feature will be handy if you download the new Samsung Galaxy Buds Live earbuds. The power switch acts as a fingerprint scanner for easy phone access.
On the back you will find a triple camera set, with 12 MP lenses for head, telephoto and ultra-coverage options. You can get a 5G-capable version of your phone if your area supports it. Overall, the new phone feels like a refinement of the original, not a complete redesign. You can take it in Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze, or a limited Thom Browne Edition. If you buy the phone from Samsung, you can even change the hinge color.
Samsung says it will reveal pricing, availability and additional information on September 1. Pre-orders open the same day.
