If you are happy to chat with Alexa late at night because her weak response may wake the whole house, you can activate a setting that will lower Alexa's voice to a whisper.
When you turn on Alexa's Whisper Mode, Alexa whispers to you if you whisper to her first.
It's a neat trick, and one that apparently required a lot of research and technical expertise to draw. In the first place, Whisper mode is an effective way to chat with Alexa on the down-low.
It is worth noting that Whisper Mode only works on Echo speakers, such as Echo and Echo Dot. If you try to whisper to Alexa using, say, the Alexa app for Android or iOS, Alexa will talk back to you in its normal voice.
How to enable Alexa's Whisper Mode
- Open the Alexa mobile app on your iOS or Android device.
- Press the Menu button, and then press Settings > Voice Answer .
- Switch to setting Whisper Mode . You can always ask Alexa to "turn off blur mode" or simply disable the setting in the Alexa app.
Here's an annoying thing about Alexa's whisper mode: while the setting applies to all Echo speakers that are logged into your Amazon account, you basically have to fine-tune it for each speaker before Alexa starts recognizing your whispers automatically .
That's because the first time you whisper to a given Echo speaker, Alexa will say in her normal voice, "I think you just whispered to me," and then she goes on to explain what Whis per position before finally lowering However, once done, Alexa should correctly respond to your whispers at the first attempt, and return to talking normally when you talk to her in a normal voice.
