The CNET stimulus calculator can help you estimate how much money you can get from the IRS if a second check is made.

If Congress approves one second stimulus control at the end of 2020, how much money can you expect as a payment? There are a number of variables that affect, so we built a handy calculator to make estimating the amount as simple as possible.

The IRS is expected to follow the same guidelines as with first stimulus control up to $ 1,200 per person, but with a twist. If and when Congress signs a the second direct payment, it could be changes in qualifications for you or your family members, which can lead to more money for you. However, there are two different suggestions on what it means, so it can be difficult. It is important that you read the next section below before using the Calculator tool.

Our stimulus control calculator is based on rules from the CARES Act, which governed the first stimulus control, and does not retain your personal information in any way. Keep in mind that this tool only provides estimates – the IRS can calculate a final figure based on other factors.

Read: What do your taxes have to do with stimulus checks? All.

Important: Before you start counting

You need yours adjusted gross income or AGI, from your tax information for 2019 or 2018. If you have done so filed your 2019 federal tax return, you can find that number on line 8b in the federal tax form for 1040 2019. It is line 7 on the tax form 1040 2018.

The CARES Act allowed you claim child dependence for $ 500 apiece, as long as they are 16 years of age or younger (that is, under 17 years of age). One change for the second control being discussed is how to extend the definition of an addiction. Two proposals suggest $ 500 for people you charge on your taxes regardless of age. The White House proposal October 9 offers $ 1000 per child addict, seems to retain the definition of this group used in the previous rules.

Remember that the calculator below is based on the first check. There are two ways to estimate the total number of relatives of all ages on the calculator below, according to each proposal. First, add the number of dependencies in the corresponding fields, no matter the age. Second, double the actual number of child beneficiaries. For example, if you have a qualified child, enter two for a total of $ 1,000 per child. If you have two children, enter four to reach the sum of $ 2000 for two children. This calculator is updated when the rules are final.

Here are exceptions to the current rules for when someone is 17 to 24 years old can claim a stimulus check. If you do not usually file taxes or have another circumstance, read ours Stimulus control FAQ for more information.

Next Stimulus Controls: What to Expect

Usually do not use tax? How to calculate your stimulus money

At the initial inspections, the IRS automatically sent incentive inspections to many who are not normally required to file a self-declaration – including senior citizens, social security and social security beneficiaries, supplementary beneficiaries and railway pensioners. (In some situations, eligible individuals and families who did not file taxes were required to use the IRS Non-Filers tool to provide the IRS with sufficient information to submit a check.)

If this is your case, enter your best guess where it asks for yours adjusted gross income.

Some who did not file taxes may be eligible for a payment but has not claimed it yet. The IRS sends letters to 9 million non-eligible movies.

Reminder: Here is who is entitled to a stimulus check

We have much more information here, but broadly speaking, here is who is entitled to some stimulus money according to the CARES Act:

  • You are a single U.S. citizen or resident alien and have an adjusted gross income of less than $ 99,000
  • You sign up as the head of a household and earn under $ 146,500
  • You file together without children and earn less than $ 198,000

To know everything about the first payment, see our guide to the first round of inspections. We also have an idea for how quickly the IRS could send out the second round of payments once approved and what other benefits you can expect in another financial relief package.
