How to build a "sleeper" just like Mark Zuckerberg

There is a small box that sits on top of Priscilla Chans bedside table. Between 6am and 7am every morning, it emits a soft glow, which seems like a passive clock that lets her know that an hour's time slot is happening.

Having noticed that his wife experienced anxiety about anticipating this crucial hour – that's when the kids usually wake up – Mark Zuckerberg built the little lamp . Now, instead of reaching to their phone throughout the night to check the time, all she needs to do is open an eye and see if the box lights up.

He shared the project on Instagram and said:

"… She will wake up and check the time on the phone to see if the children can wake up soon, but then you know that time is stretching her out and she can't sleep together "So I worked on building her what I call the sleeping car. It sits on her bedside table and between 6-7 hours it gives a very weak light ̵

1; visibly enough that if she sees it, she knows it's okay for one of us to get the kids but fainted enough that the light will not wake her if she is still asleep. "

His post encouraged entrepreneurs to take the idea and run with it, but you don't have to wake up for Kickstarters to start. Instead, you can build your own sleeping cabin in Zuckerberg style with a simple recipe.

How to create a sleep box

Building this steam-burning box is simple. All you need is:

  • A lamp with a transparent and opaque shade
  • A smart lamp or smart switch

To put your sleeping basket together, screw a smart lamp (like This Lifx lamp ) into the lamp. Then enter the settings and schedule the lamp to turn on during the desired hours.

The advantage of using a smart lamp is that you can set the color to a warm yellow hue and attenuate it to a very low setting, which prevents the rest box from waking you up.

For the smart switch option, you can choose a lamp (or even a night light) that is already the color and fog you need. Then connect it to a smart switch (like Amazon Smart Plug ) and enter the schedule in the attached app.

Here are some lights that would work for smart switch setup:

Alternatively, you might consider a wake-up light like Philips' Somneo Light Therapy lamp. It's a $ 160 option that lets you create a schedule, customize the dimming, and adjust the color temperature of a device. For some people, however, the shade of the lamp can be too large and disturb sleep, even at the lowest setting.
