Under the “Settings” tab, you will see the columns currently used for the X and Y axes under the “X-Axis” and “Series” options. The first column listed under “Series” is used for the Y-axis.

The axes used for a Google Sheets chart are listed below

If you want to change these, you can do it manually by changing labels in the “X-axis” and “Series” options.

For example, a chart below shows the product sales of computer devices, with prices and sales dates. Prices are currently used for the X-axis, while sales dates are used for the Y-axis.

To change this data, click on the current column listed as the “X-axis” in the “Chart Editor” panel. This displays the list of available columns in your dataset in a drop-down menu.

Select the current Y-axis label to replace your existing X-axis marking from this menu. In this example, “Date Sold” would replace “Price” here.

Click an X or Y axis in the Google Sheets Chart Editor panel, then select an alternate column from the drop-down menu.

If the data is correct, this will give you a chart that has the same data as the X and Y axes. You must repeat these steps for the first column listed under the “Series” category to replace the Y-axis next.

In this case, replace “Date Solid” (the current Y-axis and the new X-axis label) under “Series” with the “Price” column (the original X-axis label) from the drop-down menu.

To change the Y-axis of a Google Sheets chart, select the first column listed below

If the columns provide correct data to form the X and Y axes of the chart, the chart is updated so that the axes have been replaced.

For this chart example, the “Price” column is now listed in the vertical Y-axis on the left, while the “Sold Date” column (with sales date) is displayed on the horizontal X-axis at the bottom.
