How to Disable Your Active Status on Facebook and Messenger «Android :: Gadget Hacks



Ever wondered how some people know you're online even though you swear you set up the Messenger app to hide your active status? No, you're not crazy – it's a problem with two contradictory settings, and there's a simple solution.

Many do not realize this, but you have two different online settings to manage if you want to appear offline at all times. Not only is the "Active Status" option available in the Facebook Messenger app, but you also have a similar setting in the Facebook app itself. It is disconnected under the Settings submenu, which means that the average user of the app can easily miss it.

Step 1: Disable Active Status in the Facebook app

Open the Facebook app and touch the menu icon (three horizontal lines) to the right to access a huge list of options. Scroll down and press "Settings and Privacy" to expand a new set of options. Click on "Settings" and then scroll down to the "Privacy" section. Locate "Active Status" and select it to open a new screen, then flip the "Show when active" button to off mode.

You can also use the search bar at the top and enter "active status" "to find the setting even faster if you prefer to do so.

Now, as you browse your news feed from the Facebook app, you will no longer appear as active, which means that your profile will be displayed offline to everyone in your friends list, allowing you to browse peacefully. If you want to maximize your offline status even further, follow the next steps to disable the second option from the Facebook Messenger app.

Step 2: Disable Active Status in the Messenger app

Open the Facebook Messenger app on the main screen and then tap your profile icon in the upper left to display the app settings. "Active status" option and then press it to bring up a new screen. Now you only have to turn "Show when active" switch to off mode. Easy!

From this point you will be completely hidden when it comes to your Facebook status online in both apps. Sometimes you just need to unwind and cool down without anyone knowing when you are available all the time. You now have the opportunity to browse your news feed privately as you see fit.
