Download books for your Amazon Kindle is easy. This quick guide teaches you how to deliver the unmatched selection of books, magazines, newspapers and series that Amazon offers, along with books and other documents you can have on your computer, to your Kindle where you can read and enjoy them.
When you buy a new book from Amazon
If you own a Kindle, you will of course stop buying a book from the Amazon Kindle Store to read on it. If you use your computer to buy a new book or periodically read on your Kindle, follow these steps to make sure it is immediately transferred to your device.
After logging into your Amazon account and navigating to Amazon's Kindle Store page for the book you want to buy, look to the right of your browser window:
Just under Buy / Buy now with the 1-click button you will find a drop-down menu with the label Deliver to . All Kindle e-readers or Amazon Kindle apps on your smartphone, tablet or computer associated with your Amazon account will be listed on this menu.
If you want to select the destination unit for the new book you are buying, click on the menu to open it. Select the intended device or app. Now make your purchase. The book or periodicals you just purchased will be sent to the device you choose, directly via Amazon's Whispernet. If you accidentally sent your new purchase to the wrong device or decide you want to read it on multiple devices – your iPhone and your Kindle Paperwhite, for example – go to the next section of this guide.
Reading a book from your existing Kindle Library
If you want to read a book, magazine or other magazine that you previously purchased, your Kindle operating system makes it so easy. The following instructions are also valid if you want to download a new book or periodically to read more than one device or Kindle app simultaneously.
To start, turn on or wake your Kindle by pressing the power button or, if fitted with a lid, open the lid. If necessary, navigate to your Kindle Home screen by touching the top of the device display and then pressing Home icon at the top of the screen.
When you have returned to your home page, you should see two words on your Kindle screen, located directly below the home icon at the top left of the screen: All and Downloaded . Touch the word All . Doing so will open a list of all books, other publications, and audiobooks you have purchased from Amazon or Audible to use with your Kindle. Browse through the list and tap the item you want to download to your Kindle. If your device is connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile connection, the content will download directly to your Kindle.
Now, press Downloaded : This allows you to view all local content currently downloaded to your Kindle. The book or periodicals you just downloaded should be there waiting for you.
