How to download file explorer tabs now in Windows 10

Microsoft worked on a "Sets" feature that would give tabs to File Explorer and other programs. Bets did not arrive in the October 2018 update and now look. But you can get tabs in File Explorer today.

Installing Stardocks Groupy

Stardock offers an application named Groupy that adds a feature like Settings to Windows today. It's a paid application that costs $ 10 alone, but Stardock offers a month-long free trial. It is also included in the Stardock Object Desktop software.

As the Windows feature Microsoft worked, Groupy adds tabs to many different applications. You can also mix and match the programs, merge tabs from multiple applications together into one window. You can drag and drop windows on the tab bar to make them tabs or drag tabs away from the field to make them separate windows, much like working with multiple tabs and windows in the browser.

Like Stardock's other software, this is a polished experience. Stardock has updated it and released version 1.2 on May 7, 2019. It also runs on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, so even Windows 7 users can take advantage of this feature.

Microsoft's SmartScreen once blocked Groupy download for us, but VirusTotal says the file is good and Stardock has been a credible company for years. If you see a SmartScreen warning when you download and install Groupy, it is safe to ignore.

Use an alternative file explorer

Instead of getting a program that adds tabs to all programs on your system, you can only install and use an alternative file manager. These use the same file and folder views used in File Explorer and Windows Explorer, so everything works the same way. But third-party file managers build their own interfaces around the default file manager's view, and many of them include tabs.

We like the free Explorer + program for free, open source and easy, running on everything from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It has a customizable user interface, but the tabs are our favorite feature.

The same keyboard shortcuts you use with tabs in your browser work with Explorer ++. You can press Ctrl + T to open a new tab Ctrl + W to close the current tab Ctrl + Tab to switch to the next tab and Ctrl + Shift + Tab to switch to the previous tab.

Remove: Upgrade to Redstone 5 for Tabs via Official Sets Feature

Update : This feature has been removed and is no longer available even on unstable Windows 10 Insider Buildings.

to Use Windows 10 Insider Previews?

The official support for tabs File Explorer is currently available as part of Redstone 5 Insider Preview Builds. You can upgrade to them and get this feature before it is officially launched at the end of 2018.

Warning : We do not recommend running Insider Preview based on your regular computer. They are technically unstable, so you can have problems with the system.

If you experience problems with these buildings, you must either downgrade within 10 days or reinstall Windows 10 to return to the stable version.

If you are interested, but you can upgrade to it by going to Settings> Update & Security> Windows Insider Program and then selecting Insider Preview based. This will only work after the update from April 2018, the code name Redstone 4, will be published officially on April 30. If it hasn't happened yet, you can only upgrade if Microsoft currently allows people to "Skip Forward" to Redstone 5. [19659004]

After upgrading, you can open the File Explorer window (or many others program) and use the new Sets feature. The keyboard shortcuts act as the default shortcuts you would use for tabs in your browser and other applications, but also include the Windows key. For example, press Ctrl + Windows + Tab to switch to the next tab and Ctrl + Windows + Shift + Tab to switch to the previous tab. Press Ctrl + Windows + T to open a new tab and Ctrl + Windows + W to close the current tab.

This feature will evolve and change over time as Microsoft adapts it and determines exactly how they want these built-in tabs. the work
