So you want to download a song from Spotify, huh? You're lucky – we'll show you how to do it. But before we dive into the instructions, you must first put together three things: a Spotify Premium subscription to call the download button, an Internet connection to download the tracks and a mobile device to store them.
All set? Here's how to download songs from Spotify.
Spotify is a bit picky about what it lets you download on some devices, so here's a quick summary: On a desktop, you can save your liked songs and playlists for offline listening, but – unlike on mobile – are albums and playlists out of the equation.
How to download liked songs on the desktop
Downloading the entire directory of liked songs on a computer couldn't be easier ̵1; just open the Liked Songs section of Spotify ( with the Spotify application for MacOS or Windows) and flip Download . That's all there is to it.
How to download playlists on the desktop
Step 1: When viewing a curated playlist you want to download, click on the little heart-shaped icon, which is located to the right of Play the button to save it to your library for easy access (if you do not, the download option will remain hidden.)
Step 2: Next, switch Download the slider in the upper right corner of any playlist. The playlist starts to download, but keep in mind that it may take a while depending on the size of the playlist and the speed of your internet connection.
Once saved, the playlist will be available from the "Playlists" section to the left of the Spotify application for MacOS and Windows, along with all your other playlists (even those that have not been downloaded for offline listening).
How to download liked songs, an album, or a playlist on mobile
Whether you download your liked list, an album or a playlist, the procedure is the same across the board. Just upload the collection you want to save and press the Download button in the upper right corner. The tracks then begin to download.
Note: You do not need to follow a playlist or album to download it on your mobile device.
How to download a podcast on your mobile
Step 1: When you watch a podcast (like Trends with Benefits ), tap the three horizontal dots in it the top right corner – or the three vertical dots, if you're using an Android device – to go to the info panel.
Step 2: Then select Manage Downloads .
Step 3: A download icon will appear next to each section, allowing you to select and select which you want to download.
Note: You can also tap the three horizontal dots to the right of individual sections and select Download if you prefer a faster method.
Can't download additional songs? It may be because you have hit the oh-so-frustrating limit of 3333 songs per unit. If so, consider removing a playlist from your offline listening library. It will free up space for the tracks you are trying to download.
It's also worth remembering that you can only download songs on three devices at a time. Try adding more and you will get a dead end. Reach that point and your only option is to make a U-turn by disabling offline listening on one of the other gadgets.
