Forget emoji. The Windows 10 update in May 2019 added kaomoji-like (╯ ° □ °） ╯︵ ┻━┻ and (ヘ ･ _ ･) ヘ ┳━┳. Use a hidden keyboard shortcut to select your favorite kaomoji and enter them in optional app – no copy paste from websites required.
If you are not familiar with kaomoji, they are popular in Japan. They are not like emoji, which are pictures. Kaomoji are more like traditional text-based emoticons, but you can understand them without tilting your head to the left. For example 🙂 is an emoji and ^ _ ^ is a kaomoji.
This feature is part of the Windows 10 emoji picker. To open it, press Windows +. (it is a period) in all applications. Click on the icon 😉 at the top of the list to see a library of kaomoji.
If you do not see the icon 😉 here you have not installed this update on your computer yet. (´ ･ ･) ﾉ (._. `)
Use the icons at the bottom of the list to scroll through different categories of kaomoji. There is more than you can first see – use the mouse scroll wheel or drag the scroll bar to the right to scroll through the list.
The main tab on the left contains your most recently used kaomoji, giving you easy access to the ones you use often. However, there is no way to attach favorites other than that. ¯ _ (ツ) _ / ¯
You can also navigate this interface entirely with your keyboard. Press Windows +. to open it, press Tab twice to select the top icons, press the right arrow key on the keyboard to select the kaomoji icon, press Enter to activate it, press Tab to move focus to the library in kaomoji, select one with the arrow keys and press Enter to insert it. You can also press Tab again to select the lower bar and use the arrow keys and Enter to select a type of kaomoji.
Now you can quickly insert kaomoji into any application.
