Have you ever received a toast, but were not sure where it came from? Although it is usually harmless, it can sometimes be an indication of the presence of an app that has long been forgotten. But with many running background apps, it can be difficult to identify the source.
Developer Michal Jakubowkski must have been tired of it too, because he created a solution. Each toast message displayed can now be logged with information about the time, content and app from which they originated. Toast can also be saved in a local database for later review at your leisure.
Step 1: Install Toast Source
You need the Toast Source app to log toast messages. The app is free and available in the Play Store.
Step 2: Set the toast logging
Open the app and press “Yes” in the prompt to open the phone’s availability menu. On Samsung Galaxy phones, you must also select “Installed Services” to see the list of apps that have requested permission. From here, select “Toast Source Detection Service”, activate the switch and then select “Allow”.
Once enabled, return to Toast Source. The service is currently running, but you can make it easier to use with a few configurations. First enable “Show overlay” (then “Allow up” access) to display the app’s icon next to all toast messages. You can also make the icon “touchable” by activating the “Touchable overlay icon” slider.
Finally, there is “Save to Database”, which logs all bowls. These toasts can be viewed later by selecting “View Saved Toasts.” This is good if you want to capture a mysterious bowl but are unsure of what exactly triggers it.
Step 3: Test it
When a toast message is displayed, you will receive a message. This warning describes the source of the toast message, the icon and the message itself if you missed it. Expand the alert for the three options: “Copy”, “App Info” and “Launch App.”
In addition, you can view all toast (if “Save to Database” was enabled) by opening Toast Source and selecting “View Saved Toast.” Here you see a list of all toast messages delivered to your phone that the app recorded. Use the floating action button in the lower right corner to filter through the list by date.
