How to get YouTube videos

There are billions of hours of video on YouTube. Literally. And it's hardly the most amazing statistics about the site that have gone to the upload and viewing video since 2005. But sometimes it's said that you really want or need one of them videos on your own computer or phone.

When the topic of downloading YouTube videos comes up, there is a page break that must be broken: Is it legal?

As for copyright as long as you download a video for your own personal offline usage, you're probably okay. It is more black and white when you consider Google's YouTube Terms of Service which reads: "You may not download content unless you see a" download "or similar link displayed by YouTube on the service for that content." [1

9659002] Watching YouTube videos offline via unofficial channels takes you money from Google's pocket and wallets from the video cups. There is a reason why YouTube is running pre-roll ads: people live that way. The video below from Video Creators explains it; It refers to YouTube Red which is now YouTube Premium, but the legal issues remain the same.

Let's be done: stealing video from YouTube is a big no-no. If you want share a video, YouTube and most other video pages make it easy, from embedding to email sharing via social networking. You simply do not need to download a video for the most part.

But you have your reasons. If you need to download a YouTube video you need, just for yourself, and not for spreading, and not being a total shower nozzle-this is how.

Note : This story is updated frequently because the affected tools change regularly. Some of these changes are not always nice, for example software that is so full of "extras" is flagged as malware of antivirus tools. The same goes for the help sites. A change in a site's ad network can also create malicious code issues.

We want to prevent this from becoming a laundry list of programs and websites that can be downloaded YouTube vids because there are too many of these tools.

  • Download full playlists or channels at a rate (on YouTube) at least with a paid version.
  • Output to MP3 for audio (or have any companion software that does it.)
  • Has an interface that does not suck.
  • 19659012] Do not collect your personal details beyond your email address.
  • Does not contain malicious code. If there is still a slight whiff of it in the air, even a PUP it is out.
  • The programs, services and pages in this story are all bad spam / viruses / trouble-free because of this write, but caveat emptor. Large. Especially if you're not really emptoring.

    Software

Third-party software is where you'll find it best control for downloading online videos. Usually, you paste the URL of the YouTube video you want in the application, and it downloads the highest quality version it can find. For videos in 1080p High Definition (HD) format, it's usually an MP4 file. For ever higher in quality – the so-called 4K and also the 8K video – the file format is usually MKV.

It used to be YouTube videos were all Flash based so your download was an FLV file, but they tend to be harder to play. MP4, short for MPEG-4 Part14 multimedia format plays everywhere on anything.

Note that the MKV file, also called Matroska, is a container. The file can contain video in any number of codecs inside. The stupid way to play them all is to use VLC Media Player for Windows, like is playing everything. As for the downloads, here are the best options.

    4K Video Downloader

    Free Basic Features, $ 15 Lifetime License on 3 Computers ;

     4K Video Downloader

Multilingual 4K Video Downloader (4KVD) is frequently updated and contains clear download links on the program's website. no traps here. The software does what it advertises in a simple interface: grabs up to 4K (actually 8K) in quality and downloads to lots of formats. Simply copy a YouTube URL and click the Paste Link button to get started. 4KVD will also capture subtitles, entire playlists and all videos in a channel you subscribe to. The sites supported are more limited to the big names like YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook and some others, but it probably covers most of your needs.

In test, I had to make a switch from MP4 to MKV format to get my test video – 3: 13 minute trailer for M. Night Shyamalans upcoming movie Glass – to download in 4K. 4KVD downloaded 132.6 MB file in about 20 seconds. It goes back to 1080p HD, so I did the same switch when I downloaded an Ultra High Definition (8K) playlist . If you enable Smart Mode and its presets, 4K Video Downloader can then make one-click downloads to your favorite format. If you want to download more than 25 videos at a time, or subscribe to YouTube channels to download the latest version directly, it requires $ 15 paid version. Playback of the MKV file in VLC was error free.

The program itself has an option to extract audio to MP3 format, so you do not even need 4K YouTube to MP3 Compilation Software of

    WinX YouTube Downloader

    Free [19659002] WinX YouTube Downloader

WinX claims that you allow downloads from 300+ locations – including adult sites. Perhaps the biggest selling point for everyone is the claim that "There is no malicious code, adware, spyware or virus. 100% pure." The new version also has a much better interface. There are ads, but during installation, I was invited to upgrade to its product called $ 29.95, VideoProc, which does everything WinX does for 1000 sites, including editing for high-end 4K / UHD video.

When you copy a YouTube URL (also for a playlist), you just click on the WinX software to launch. You start with the "analyzer", which controls all options. With Glass, this tool also tried to default to the 1.920-by-1.080 version in MP4; I chose the 4K version (3,840 of 2,160 pixels) in WebM Format which is a subset of the MKV format. You can rename a .webm file to a .mkv and it works well. You can set a number of them to reset before even clicking the download button. The file 4K 130.7MB took a whole 44 seconds to download, double it for 4K Video Downloader.

I could not find options for downloading closed captions. So it's a strike against it, if you need that feature. But WinX probably does it by supporting so many download sites.

    AnyVid

    Free 14-day trial then $ 19.99 per year or $ 29.99 life time ; AnyVid ” border=”0″ class=”” src=”https://assets.pcmag.com/media/images/603373-anyvid.png?thumb=y&width=740&height=510″/>

Supports 1000 sites, AnyVid also converts video to other formats or music files and can take entire playlists and handle batchned downloads all at once . It's shareware so you get limited features even in two weeks of trial (10 downloads per day, five video conversions a day); Even if you buy it, there is a 30-day money back guarantee. There is a Discover mode, which is essentially a browser option to quickly find the way to the supported sites (including adult sites) to find content to take.

AnyVid lets you do more than work with a pasted URL among the sites it supports for your search term. But paste a URL also works. You get a quick preview, but no options until you click the Download button. Then you can select a video format (like 4K in either WebM or full MKV container) or choose an audio format (MP3, M4A, WebM or Ogg).

There is also a large list of options to get video sans audio. Click the format you want and add the file to your library. Click the Library icon to actually view the download. Grab a 132.9 MB file of Glass took AnyVid 1 minute and 23 seconds. By clicking the play button next to a video tagged as Downloaded, it opened directly to VLC for me, and the video was perfect. However, there is no caption. To get a playlist, you can also use a URL, but must click on the download to add each individual video to your AnyVid library.

    Gihosoft TubeGet

    Free or $ 29.95 for Personal Pro Edition ; Gihosoft TubeGet ” border=”0″ class=”” src=”https://assets.pcmag.com/media/images/603374-gihosoft-tubeget.png?thumb=y&width=740&height=483″/>

Gihosoft has possibly the record of sites supported at 10,000+. The free version has limits, but there is no download of a click, it does not support all 10,000 sites, you only get five downloads per day and download speeds of 1 Mbps, no matter what connection speed you have. You can also only capture audio in M4A and can not get subtitles. All these restrictions will be deleted if you pay.

But free of charge, you can take 4K video from YouTube without any problems. The 130.7MB file of Glass took over five minutes – no surprise with the speed limitation, but still painful. There is an option to convert the file to MKV, AVI or WMV when you download it. If you want a playlist, you can do them in a batch, but in my test, TubeGet would only allow a max 1080p HD even in the 8K video playlist.

    YouTubeByClick

    Free or $ 14.99 / year or $ 40 / unlimited ;

     YouTubeByClick

YouTubeByClick records videos from over 50 websites. Before you even do the first download, you can use "dial" on the interface to set a preferred download format (MP4 video or MP3 audio) and a standard download quality as high as 8K, even on the free version. Downloading an MP4 in that size was a long wait, but it's not surprising – the free version's speed is limited to 2 Mbps. I gave the listing after seven minutes and had to leave the room. The paid version has unlimited download speed. You also need premium to download playlists and channels, make conversions, avoid ads, and get closed captions.

One thing you can do on YouTubeByClick unique is set whenever you copy a URL from YouTube, the program will notice if it is running in the background. You can also enter your account information for YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and a few other foreign websites to get immediate private downloads.

    5K Player

    Free ;

     5K Player

Absolutely Free, 5K Player from DearMob is a tool much more than a downloader, but it has a lot of downloaders integrated. Promising no viruses and no ads and no need for plug-ins is a good start. Unfortunately, it's one of the few downloaders I tested requesting your name and email. You need to do it to get full download feature over 300+ websites . You can still use it as a media player if you do not register. I could not and could still download 4K vids from YouTube.

When you download, the program attempts to hide certain options. Paste the URL of a YouTube video and the analytics engine runs and shows only some download options. Click the Gear icon, then the Show All button and you'll see more including the ability to get a 4K 3.840-by-2160 file in WebM format. The 130.7 MB file took about one minute. Gripping playlists were also possible, but you have to put things up one video at a time. The confusing interface makes it difficult to return to other videos in the playlist.

5K Player also has DLNA server playback so videos allow you to view all devices in DLNA home support. It supports AirPlay for fast playback to supported devices on it. Select a video in the library and you can quickly convert to MP4, MP3 or even ACC (an audio format preferred by IOS devices). The player did not like to play the excessive 4K file and experienced buffer problems. VLC had no problem with the same file. In the end, there's a lot to like from 5K Player, from price to features, especially if you're watching them as extras on a downloader. However, the interface and playback problems can make you look elsewhere.

    Help Pages

Do you prefer to avoid installing software? Video download help pages work the download for you, provide conversion and then a download link – you do not need to install anything on your computer. It may take a lot longer, depending on the size and quality of the video you want. A typical two minute 1080p movie trailer can be about 30 MB, but you can not beat the convenience.

There are hundreds of of these types of websites out there – it appears that someone with a modicity of coding ability has set up one. Such places can easily go from useful to suspects, especially if they become popular. If your browser (or your instincts) throws up warnings, you avoid and move to the next.

Some of these sites make it easy to capture video by letting you change the URL of a video on YouTube something, so the service takes over. We note some of them below.

NOTE! : Beware of ad hits on some help sites. Some ads appear as if they should be the download button to get the desired content, but they are not. Also, depending on the ad network used by the site, your own virus detection software may discard any alerts. The more developers of websites depend on ads they do not control, or seem to try to make you place something on your system as "payment", the worse we are all.

Here are some helpers who stand out. Everyone is doing a basic thing: you give them a YouTube URL (or other video page if supported), they analyze it, give you a choice of the size you want and provide a link to that download. TubeNinja "border =" 0 "class =" "src =" https://assets.pcmag.com/media/images/603384-tubeninja.png?thumb=y&width=740&height=563 "/>

Despite some previous problem, TubeNinja sports an easy-to-use website with nothing that seems like an ad trap. It supports a large number of websites (including so many adult sites), multiple languages, and is able to add features through a browser's bookmark. [19659067] Add "dl" to a URL ("dlyoutube.com") for a site name for quick downloads.

    YouTubNow

      YouTubNow

There is a "tub" not a "tube" on That name, but YouTubNow still works with YouTube and offers up to a 1080p MP4 download, plus many audio options. There are no ads and downloads are unlimited. Paste box is also a YouTube searcher.

    • Change a YouTube.com -URL to say youtubnow.com (no "e") and hit back

    YoutubeMonkey

One of the few Help pages that supports 4K downloads, YoutubeMonkey offers a super easy interface. There is simply the form to paste the URL and a download link – across a very ugly list of popular videos that have been downloaded with the service.

    • Add "monkey" to the URL after "YouTube" – do it "youtubemonkey.com" – for immediate download.

    SaveFrom.net

      SaveFromNet

SaveFrom.net has made a big name for itself in recent years. It can make web-based downloads, but also provides software to install and a browser extension. It does not support 4k, but few helpers that exceed 1080p or using the WebM format is an option, but it does not come with audio. You can also not use SaveFrom.net to make an MP3. Of course, these options are available in downloadable software.

    • Add "ss" in front of "youtube.com" ("www.ssyoutube.com") for immediate download.

    FetchTube

      FetchTube

The minimalist interface of FetchTube is probably worth considering everything yourself. Paste the URL and you can load some options to see what you can grab, even with a 4K video, the download is max 720p MP4. Or click on "Listen" to get an MP3 of just the sound.

    • Put the word "magic" between you and the tube ("www.youmagictube.com") into a URL to get instant FetchTube options.

    VidPaw

      VidPaw

An on-site beginner offers VidPaw the common features, but on a relatively spartan, clean user interface. Although it shows how YouTube can ever crack down on these things when I saw that VidPaw's own tutorial video hosted on YouTube was "no longer available because the YouTube account associated with this video has been terminated." Currently, the site is working – and does it with 1,000+ other sites. It does not offer video / audio combo downloads greater than 720p MP4s; You can get the video alone as a 2160p WebM format if you want.

    • Add "paw" to the end of "youtube" in a URL ("www.youtubepaw.com") to instantly get VidPaw to run.

    Extensions

A browser extension can save you a step. But you will encounter some trouble downloading video from YouTube, especially if you use Chrome as your primary browser.

     Video Downloader Professional

The Chrome Web Store – where you get Chrome browser add-on – is managed by YouTube's Owner Alphabet / Google. Even an extension for this purpose, as the apparently named Video Downloader Professional above states, just in its description, "Downloading YouTube Videos to Hard Disk Drive is Locked Due to Chrome Store Restrictions." (Even downloads from the webshop have YouTube downloads disabled.) Generally with Chrome extensions, downloading of any RTMP protocol videos (protected videos) or streaming videos is not possible.

Same with other additions as vGet. You can of course use them on other websites with video. Just not YouTube.

Do you want to get around? Get an extension that is not from Google's web store. Some of the above programs and helpers have an extension component and will spell out how to make the extension installation without help as Chrome users usually come from the Chrome Web Store.

Other browser extensions can work if you do not get them from Google.

    FastestTube

Free ; Opera, Safari, Chrome, Firefox, IE, Chrome-based browser

     FastestTube

This download tool is available on all platforms, with a Chrome installer that skips the Chrome Web Store. It places a "download this video" menu directly on which YouTube page you load, with any formatting options displayed.

    Video DownloadHelper

    Free ; Firefox, Chrome

     Video DownloadHelper

In order not to be confused with the unrelated "pro" above, Video DownloadHelper supports a large number of websites, including those for adults. You know that a video can be downloaded when the extension icon animates when you're on the web page. Since we last updated, Video DownloadHelper for Chrome has stopped working with YouTube, so it may probably be the location in the Chrome Web Store. You can still make downloads with it on Firefox. The developer has a Kiva initiative page, where you prefer donating money to those who need it, which has increased over $ 125,000.

    Threelly SmartView

    Free or $ 33 / year up to $ 133 / year for operations ; Chrome

     Threelly

This is a Chrome extension that actually works from the online store – because it does not allow you to download YouTube videos, only time lines you can share (and even they are only from YouTube). First, create an account and log in. The extension icon turns green on a YouTube page – click it to create the times you want, and then save and share easily. The viewer returns to YouTube and sees what you specify. It's not really close to saving a video for offline use, but may be useful under certain circumstances.

    Mobile

Remember the problem of using Chrome add-ons from Google's web store? You will get an even bigger question when you want to download from YouTube with an Android app from the Google Play store where Google has a more even grip. (Also, you can not download anything with your officially approved YouTube apps. If you do not live in India.)

     InsTube

That said with Android possible to install apps without going through Google. The latest is InsTube – Free Video and Music Downloader for Android only – you can only download it on Instuss homepage. You download the APK (Android Application Pack) file to browse an Android device. Find it in device downloads and click it to install. (You may need to access your security settings and enable "Unknown sources."). There are similar page upload programs from WonTube and YTD.

On iPhones and iPads, you think there would be no such limitation because Apple and Google are not exactly the best of friends. But on the few apps I tried in the first edition of this story, they would not just download from YouTube, they are not even available anymore. One of these apps says in its description, "Download from YouTube is prohibited due to terms of use." Apple assures that programmers are playing the rules – including Google's rules. All the better to get Google block anybody who finally does something illegal with iTunes downloads, probably.

Chances are, the minute you'll find an iOS app that can download YouTube videos, it gets "fixed" or prohibited. The only real option is to jailbreak your iPhone and use page-loaded apps that download whatever you want.

There are solutions. One uses a free iOS file management application like Documents City Readdle. You can use your Safari browser to visit a YouTube video and use the Share option to find Copy Link. Then go back to Docs and use the embedded browser in the app to browse to a video retrieval help page like SaveFrom.net. Paste the link in the form (hold it down until you get the "Paste" menu to pop up). The site gives you the links to download, and you can save the file to Documents. Hold down and drag up the file until you return to the main screen, then drag it to the Images folder. You must provide permissions to documents to access photos for the first time. You can then access the video as if you had any video taken on your phone or tablet in the Photos app.

     AnyTrans

Another solution: Return to the desktop and try AnyTrans ($ 39.99 for a single computer), a file manager for iOS devices that has an integrated downloader that supports 900 sites , including YouTube and Facebook. It transfers the video to iPhone for you via the USB cable. Even if you do not pay for AnyTrans, the download option is left and it's free forever.
