If you are something like us, you love to show pictures you have taken with your phone. But there are times when you want to keep some pictures away from others, because they are personal – no one needs to see 50 different versions of essentially the same selfie – or ahem, inappropriate.
In situations like these, the ability to hide pictures on your phone becomes invaluable, especially if you have children or friends who often use your device. Here we describe how to hide your photos on your iPhone, iPad or iPod. We also have some security apps that we would suggest for the photos you really don't want to come out.
Hide photos with built-in features
The fastest way to hide images on your iPhone is also the easiest, as it doesn't require any additional software. This method also works on your iPhone as it does your iPad and iPod Touch. Keep in mind that this only keeps photos in the comments Moments, Years and Collections. Hidden images are still visible when browsing your albums. If you use the iCloud Photo Library, all photos on your iPhone will also be hidden on other devices you may have, including your iPad, iPod Touch and Mac.
Step 1. Start the Photos app.
Step 2. Press Select in the upper right corner of the screen and select which photo to hide. You can also do it for each photo manually when viewing a single photo preview.
Step 3. Touch the icon Share in the lower left corner (the square with the arrow protruding from it). At the bottom of the resulting menu, press the button that looks like two rectangles overlap with one line through them.
Step 4. Press Hide photo to confirm your decision. Hidden images will be placed in a new Album folder named Hidden .
Preventing images with built-in functions
Making images visible again is as easy as hiding them and can be done directly on your iPhone. It also affects your iCloud Photo Library.
Step 1. Launch the Photos app and go to albums.
Step 2. Touch the folder Hidden – depending on how many albums you have created, you may need to browse to find it.
Step 3. Select the image (s) you want to make visible.
Step 4. Touch the Share icon and select Unhide which will replace the Hide button and look similar, but with the line now behind the two rectangles. If you delete all the images in the hidden folder, the folder will be deleted automatically. To hide pictures again will make it return.
