With iCloud Photos, photos from all your Apple devices will appear in the App's Mac app for Mac. But if you have an Android phone, digital camera or simply completed space in iCloud, you need to import them manually.
The process is quite simple for any device you have. First connect the device and open the Photos app. You can find it on your Mac dock, or you can press Command + Space to open Spotlight and search for "Photos". Look for your device in the sidebar on the left, under "Units".
If the device does not appear, you may need to check that the device is in the correct position to import photos. Some cameras have an import mode that you may need to activate, and most phones (including Android and iPhone) are likely to be unlocked before appearing here. The method may vary from manufacturer, so you need to check the camera's instruction manual if it does not work.
When connected, click the device name to download the import page. This displays a list of all photos on the device, separates the new images from those you have already imported, and lets you choose which ones you want to import.
Click the "Import # Select" button after selecting photos. The Photos app transfers them from your device to your Mac and adds them to your library.
If you just want to upload the latest photos you've taken after you've previously synced to your Mac, click "Import All New Photos" To add everything under "New Photos" to your library. You can find your photos after you import them by clicking "Photos" or "Importing".
The photos app automatically adds photos to your main library. But if you want to be more organized and import them to a specific folder, you can click the "Import" menu at the top of the library.

Alternatively, you can choose to delete images from phone or camera after import to restore space on the device. This is completely safe and is also optional.
Once you start importing the process, it may take a while depending on how many images you import and how slow the connection with the device is. Make sure the device does not turn off when it is imported.
If the device does not appear in the Photos app, you may need to copy the images to your computer and manually drag them into iPhoto. Alternatively, you can choose to import from a folder in the Finder by selecting "Import" from the File menu.
If you take pictures of movies, you must first digitize them. You can do this with the Image Capture app and a scanner.
