How to lock text boxes in Word

Locking text boxes is a great way to protect specific content of your document from changing, inadvertently or intentionally. To lock your text boxes in Word.

Let's say you work with a document that other people in the same network have access to and you want to lock your text boxes so you must not be mistakenly edited.

To do this, we must use the tools available on the Developer tab. The developer tab is hidden by default, so continue and enable the tab to appear on the tape if you don't already have it.

Once you have selected the Developer tab, continue and open the document with the text boxes you want to lock and switch to the "Developer" tab. Here you select "Limit editing" in the "Protect" section.

Note: The Limit Editing option is also available on the Review tab, but only appears if you have enabled the Developer tab.

A Restrict edit window appears on the right where you can restrict editing permissions for all or some parts of the document. In the "Editing restrictions" section, select the checkbox next to "Allow only this type of edit in the document" and then hold "No changes (Read only)" selected in the drop-down menu in the same section. Next, you must select all content in your document except for for the text boxes you want to lock. The easiest way to do this is to hit Ctrl + A to select everything in the document and then hold the Ctrl key while clicking on each check box, so you delete them from the selection.

After selecting the content, select the box next to "All" under "Exceptions". It does so that anyone can still edit the selected content.
