There are those of us who are brand loyal and those of us who prefer to mix and match. You may like the crisp sound of Apple AirPods, but when it comes to computers, Windows computers are your preference over MacBooks. It is the beauty of competition among brands; There are many companies that create sweet things, and it is easy to pick and choose what works best for you.
However, what happens when you want to connect these AirPods to your computer? Are they compatible with each other? What do you need to do to create a link between these opposing brands? Fortunately, we all have answers.
Make Your Equipment Compatible
The short answer? Yes, you can connect Apple AirPods to a Windows PC, at least in most cases. Before moving forward with AirPods, you want to make sure your computer has Bluetooth features. There is some good news and bad news here. The good news is that Bluetooth is a widely used technology in modern times and it is fairly easy to determine if your computer has it or not. The bad news is, if the computer doesn't, then it's the end of the line.
Anyway, to find out if your computer has Bluetooth, right-click the Windows Start button and find Device Manager. If there is a Bluetooth entry in the device list, congratulations! You have Bluetooth and can move on with the rest of this process. If it is not there, you probably do not have Bluetooth capability.
If you find that you do not have Bluetooth capability built into your PC, there are some options. A Bluetooth adapter would be the most cost-effective option. However, there are other ways to get better sound for your computer. There are a number of speakers that are optimized for computers that are designed to give a bigger sound to your computer. Or you can choose another set of headphones, perhaps a wired option that goes beyond the need for Bluetooth.
Now, where did we set these AirPods on?
Setting up your computer
To start the connection, right-click the Windows start button again. From there, click Settings, followed by Devices. It takes you to the "Bluetooth & other devices" screen.
