TikTok, which is currently the front line for viral video content, is a social media app that allows people to record, edit and share short videos. But if you come across sexual, violent or otherwise inappropriate content in the app, you can easily file a report.
How to report a TikTok video
As you browse the videos in your TikTok feed, you can see content that violates a number of the app's rules or community guidelines, or even laws. To report a video, click "Share" in the lower right corner.
In the next menu, tap "Report."
Select the reason for your report – you may need to select a more specific reason on the following screen.
You can then specify screenshots and describe why you are reporting the video. When you're done, hit "Submit."
As stated on the last report page, if anyone is in immediate physical danger, contact your local law enforcement.
If the video is appropriate content that just doesn't interest you, press and hold in the middle of the video until a small menu appears. From there, press "Not interested."
You can also press "More" to hide all videos either from that person or with that sound (background music or sound).
How to Report a TikTok Account
If an entire account regularly publishes inappropriate content or misleading information, you can also report it. To do so, press the Account button (account avatar).
Touch the three-point icon in the upper-right corner of the account page. Select "Report" and then select the reason for reporting the account. Again, you may need to select a more specific reason on the following screen.
You can then provide screenshots and a description of your report. When you're done, click "Submit."
How to report a comment on TikTok
Part of the engagement aspect of TikTok responds to comments on videos. Like most sites on the internet, people sometimes leave nasty or inappropriate messages.
To report a particular comment, press and hold it until a small menu appears. Select "Report" and specify the cause (and another more specific cause) of your report.
You can then add additional comments or screenshots. When you're done, click "Submit" to send the TikTok report.
Part of the allure of social media is its "Wild West". Fortunately, these tools (and more, like Family Safety Mode) can help you control what type of content you see on TikTok.
