Printers are notorious for failing frequently. A quick restart of the printer or computer usually resolves most intermittent problems, but sometimes it is best to restore print settings and reinstall the printer completely. Reset Print System
Search for "Printer" in Spotlight or open "Printers & Scanners" settings from System Preferences. [1
If you select this command, wipe all current settings and remove all printers from the list (not just the one you right clicked). To prevent this from happening by mistake, you must enter your password.
Because it removes all printers from the settings, you must add them manually. Make sure the printer is plugged in and click the "+" button at the bottom of the list. You can view the connected printers or add a wireless printer over the network.
There are some printers that you can not add from this dialog. If you have trouble installing a printer, read your printer guide or watch the network for an installer for your printer model.
