Printers are notorious for failing frequently. A quick restart of the printer or computer usually resolves most intermittent problems, but sometimes it is best to restore print settings and reinstall the printer completely. Think of this as a final troubleshooting step; It is best to try other options first. You can read our troubleshooting troubleshooting guide on macOS for some other potential solutions.
Reset Print System
Search for "Printer" in Spotlight or open "Printers & Scanners" settings from System Preferences. The Printers and Scanners window displays a list of all connected printers. If you right-click any of them, you can choose "Reset print system" from the popup menu.
If you select this command, wipe all current settings and remove all printers from the list (not just the one you right clicked). To prevent this from happening by mistake, you must enter your password.
Because it removes all printers from the settings, you must add them manually. Make sure the printer is plugged in and click the "+" button at the bottom of the list. You can view the connected printers or add a wireless printer over the network.
There are some printers that you can not add from this dialog. If you have trouble installing a printer, read your printer guide or watch the network for an installer for your printer model.
