How to set up Find my iPhone forever to keep track of your iOS device "iOS & iPhone :: Gadget Hacks

While the iPhone may be more expensive than ever, it will not stop us from losing them or having them stolen. Whether you have an iPhone 5 S or an iPhone X S Max, it is a good chance that it will go missing sometime during your ownership. It may end up in a sofa cushion or in the hands of a box, but whatever happens to it, you must prepare it in advance for the inevitable.

Find my iPhone is Apple's own service that allows you to track and find a missing Apple device, as well as the remote control, if ever it gets to it. It is included as a step in the initial setup of iOS, so there is a good chance that you have already enabled Search My iPhone. If you skip this step, you want to set it up now, as soon as you can, before you regret it.

If you have AppleCare + with theft protection, it won't do you well it will be time to replace your missing iPhone because the insurance requires you to find my iPhone enabled when your iPhone is missing or stolen.

Step 1
: Open Your iCloud Settings

Finding My iPhone is a pretty simple feature to set up. Open the Settings app, and then tap the iCloud section with your name at the top of the page. Then press "iCloud."

Step 2: Activate Find my iPhone

In the iCloud settings, tap "Search my iPhone" and then select the slider next to "Find my iPhone." If it is white it means Finding My iPhone is currently disabled for your device, while green means it is enabled. Once enabled, if prompted, enter the Apple ID and password for your iPhone. It's as simple as that.

You have also just enabled "Activation lock" that links your Apple ID to the iPhone so you have a better chance of restoring it later when it is lost or stolen. Specifically, this feature prevents anyone from trying to activate the device, so even if thieves are able to get around the lock screen, they cannot dry it without knowing your Apple ID and password. Although they somehow delete it, they still can't activate it for use without your data.

If you have AirPods or an Apple Watch connection, they will automatically find my iPhone enabled for them when you enable it for your iPhone.

You must remember your Apple ID credentials

You should only enable Search My iPhone if you know the Apple ID and password for the device. It will not always ask you about this information when you enable Search My iPhone. If you do not know the reference data, you will not be able to disable Find My iPhone if you need it later, and you will not even have access to Find My iPhone Later if the device is lost or stolen.

While there are ways to find your Apple ID, as well as options to reset your password, it's better to just forget it. We suggest that you store it in Apple's built-in iCloud Keychain or use a third-party password manager such as LastPass.

Step 3: Activate "Send last place"

As you can see above, there is also a "Send last Place" option when Search My iPhone is enabled. As described, it will automatically send the location to [your] iPhone to Apple when the battery is critically low. "

Step 4: Get acquainted with its alternative

Now that Find My iPhone is enabled, it's a good idea to open the Find My iPhone App that is installed on your device. The app has been a non-removable storage app then iOS 9, but it can be hidden in a hidden folder.

After logging into the app with your Apple ID, you will be able to see a map of the locations of all your Apple devices that has search my iphone, ipad, or mac enabled, if you have more than one device you will probably not see any information about the iPhone you are currently using, but you will do so if it is the only Apple device configured with iCloud tracking system.

In the app you can view other devices, see their coordinates, view different map types, change the desired distance measurement, jump directly to directions in Apple Maps and get help. For each device, if it's another iPhone, an iPad , an iPod touch, MacBook or other MacOS computers, Apple Watch or your AirPods, you can play a sound on the device to find it around the house, lock it in the hope that someone will come back

If your iPhone gets lost or stolen, you can use the Find My iPhone app on other iOS devices and you can log in to iCloud.com to access Find My iPhone in a web browser.
