  1. In Google Maps, tap your profile icon in the top right.
  2. Click Location Sharing.
  3. If this is your first share, Maps will provide an introduction and allow you to select contacts (you may be asked to provide access to your contacts). Otherwise, press New Share.
  4. Once you have selected a contact, press the duration to select how long you share location information. You can increase the time in hour-long steps or choose until you turn this off to divide indefinitely.
  5. Maps show the status of that contact from now on.
  6. To share with more people, press New Share and repeat the process.
  7. To stop, tap the sharing status, then press Stop.

There may be times when you want to share your location on Android or iOS via a specific app, or even as a general link. You may want to share it via text message or post your location on a social network. Thankfully, Google Maps makes location sharing so easy with a few similar steps.   1. In Google Maps, tap your profile icon in the top right.
  2. Click Location Sharing.
  3. If this is your first share, Maps will present the same contact menu as mentioned in previous instructions, but will also allow you to share a link via an app or link either directly (on Android) or by tapping More Options (on iOS) .
  4. Click on the app you want to share with or browse until you can tap Copy to (on Android) or Copy (on iOS) to get the shareable link.
  5. In either case, you can tap Share via link to adjust the length of the link or tap Stop to end sharing.

Google Maps location sharing is accurate, but it will not share absolutely everything. Others will be notified that you are sharing. They will see a map pin that is approximate to your location and can check the device’s battery charge if they suddenly lose your position. When they tap share status, they see certain address information like your city and zip code or postal code.

However, they usually do not see your exact address, nor will they see your location history or current path. And when you stop sharing your site, that information disappears. You do not have to worry about someone following you on Google Maps without your knowledge and permission, in other words.
