How to stop spelling and grammar errors in a specific word document

If you want to hide spelling and grammar errors in a particular Word document without all other documents being affected by the change in settings, you are lucky. Microsoft Word has surprisingly a way to do this.

You may be wondering why you would like to turn off spelling for a particular document in the first place. There are a number of reasons. Maybe you like to submit the feature in most documents but have one where it distracts you. Or maybe you have a boiler where you use fill words (like Word's Lorem Ipsum feature). Or maybe you want to test yourself and see how many mistakes you make. Whatever the reason, you can do it in a few simple steps.

Hide document-specific spelling and grammar errors

With your document open, switch to the "File" tab.

 file tab

Then select "Options" at the bottom of the left pane.

 select option

The "Word Options" window is now displayed. Here you select the "Proof" tab.

Right at the bottom of the window, select "Hide spelling errors in this document only" and "Hide grammar only in this document" checkboxes. Click "Ok".

This now removes grammar and spell check for only the document where you are currently working. Note that this setting is a document-specific setting and will still apply even after you send it out, be careful!
