How to watch HBO offline on your iPhone for "Games of Thrones" anytime «iOS & iPhone :: Gadget Hacks

If you are a Game of Thrones fan and would like to see the latest season offline on your iPhone, or if you need to catch up on past seasons, there is no current support on HBO Go or HBO now to download episodes for offline viewing. But it's only halfway true because there's a legally official way to download HBO content on your iPhone, it's just not obvious at all.

Download movies and TV shows for offline playback is necessary when you want to watch something away from a good internet connection or without wasting data. Netflix allows downloads for specific content, as well as Prime Video. Showtime also supports downloading of movies and TV programs. So it's nice to see that HBO finally plays catchup, sort of.

HBO has not updated any of its apps for iOS than with download capability, but we hope it will someday soon. Until then, the only way to download Game of Thrones and other programs and movies from HBO is to join Apple's iOS 1

2.3 beta program, either as a public test or developer. Why? Since the download system is exclusively right now for Apple's new TV channels in the TV app. Unfortunately, this means that there is no Android support at this time.

Step 1: Update to iOS 12.3 Beta

Apple TV channels are exclusive to iOS 12.3, which is not yet out for the masses. If you want to download HBO programs and movies today, you need to register for the iOS 12.3 beta program or the developer program. Fortunately, beta is open to all iPhone models that can run iOS 12, and it's easy to download and configure. Be sure to carefully read the fine before logging in to prevent unnecessary data loss along the line.

Step 2: Sign up for HBO via Apple TV channels

When you have access to Apple TV channels You may find that signing up for HBO is pretty easy. It can actually be the easiest way to sign up for HBO. You can find options to start a free trial of a week over the entire app. You can carefully see an option for it when you start scrolling, but if you can't you always press the "Search" button at the bottom right, look for HBO and then press the HBO channel.

All you need to do is tap "Try It Free". Once you have done so, the purchase screen will appear and indicate that when your attempt ends, you will be charged $ 14.99 for a monthly subscription to HBO from the specified date. If you cancel before then you do not have to pay, but if you do not, you must at least pay for one month of HBO through the card attached to your Apple account.

Step 3: Find a show or movie to download

Once you have signed up, all HBO content is available for you to download. You can browse the HBO channel to find a title you want to save, or if you have something specific in mind, use the "Search" tab to find it.

Once you've found your title, tap it. Movies will have a download option that will appear immediately. However, TV shows are grouped by season, with each section containing their own download button. You can tap the season name to reveal other available seasons or pull through the episodes listed on the screen.

Step 4: Download Your Title

Once you have selected a movie or TV show, tap its download icon. Once you have done so, you will see the icon change to a progressive wheel. Movies will instantly say "Download", while episodes show the progress wheel.

You know your title has been downloaded when you see an iPhone symbol with a check box where the download button one time was. Movies make this a little more noticeable with a giant "Download" tag next to the icon.

Step 5: Play your downloaded titles

Playing one of these downloaded titles is as easy as to stream it. You can of course play the title right after downloading it, but it won't help you if you need to watch content offline. This is where your "Library" comes in.

Touch the "Library" tab in the lower navigation bar. Here you will find movies and TV shows that you have purchased through the iTunes Store, but also titles you have downloaded through Apple TV Channels. To access the downloaded titles, press "Downloaded." Then look for your title from this downloaded list. The TV series will be grouped by series, so tap the series you want, and then find your episode from the following page. Each title shows its start time, which for HBO is 48 hours after the original playback.

Step 6: Managing Your Downloads

Apple may have scrapped 16GB of iPhones, but storage space is still a problem on iOS. Even though HBO automatically removes watches looking for 48 hours, you can manually delete titles whenever you want. In this "Downloaded" list, tap "Edit" and then the titles you want to delete. Then press "Delete" at the top right and then press the red "Delete" confirmation button at the bottom to confirm.

Alternatively, you can delete titles, episodes and even entire TV series by quickly turning left on each. If you do not swipe fast enough, press the "Delete" button. Anyway, press the "Remove Download" confirmation to complete.
