Congress has not yet agreed on who will get a second stimulus check, but it is expected that more will count the second time.

What it takes to qualify second stimulus control for as much as up to $ 1,200? Talking about the next one financial relief package is still on hold, so we still do not know what the final qualifications will be. Specifically, we are not sure how the next support package will extend or limit your eligibility for a second check. Both Democrats and Republicans seem to agree that at least one group that passed for the first time should count on a final payment. But if less money overall is allocated to the final bill (and it may very well happen), it is uncertain how it may affect you and your family.

For many, the difference can be very important. According to the Department of Labor’s latest statistics, new unemployment claims have hovered around 1 million plus for 22 weeks in a row, resulting in intense pressure to make a deal that coronavirus recession continues and tens of millions of americans face eviction and more.

“More people will die, more jobs will be lost. We must try to reach that agreement now,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told Politico on Tuesday about waiting until September.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said he wants to resume talks on Saturday when the House returns to vote on independent legislation to save the US Post Office. Negotiators seem willing to return to the debate, but the Senate deepening still continues until September 8.

When and if calls are resumed, the issue is to allow more people to qualify for a direct payment than were entitled to first round of stimulus check will be on the agenda – keep reading for the current lowdown. We have recently updated this story.

Who can qualify for the second stimulus check

Although we do not know for sure who will qualify for a new incentive payment until the legislation has been adopted, we can deduct first stimulus check eligibility requirements to get an idea of who may or may not get a second check, including income limits and number of dependencies.

Both sides use adjusted gross income, or AGI, to determine the amount of payment for individuals and families, which would be $ 1200 for individuals and $ 2,400 for married couples.

Who may qualify for the next stimulus check

Qualifying group

Probably in the final bill

Unlikely in the final proposal

individuals

An AGI of less than $ 99,000 under all proposals.

X

Household managers

An AGI of less than $ 146,500, under all proposals.

X

Couples filing joint income

An AGI of less than $ 198,000, under all proposals.

X

Depending on all ages

No dependent limit specified under the HEALS Act.

Up to three relatives, according to the hero law.

Non-citizens who pay taxes

X

Proposed in the hero law, which was not taken up by the Senate.

People who are imprisoned

X

The CARES law excludes this group.

People who owe child support

X

The CARES law excludes this group. The team of heroes would include them.

Addicts who may be eligible for a second payment

The CARES Act took a narrow approach to defining an addiction and allowed a $ 500 payment only for a child aged 16 or younger in the family. HEALS and Heroes Acts both have a broader definition and allow all addicts you claim to qualify for a payment – college students, children over the age of 17, disabled relatives and taxpayer parents.

The democratic plan described in the Hero Law would cover $ 1,200 each, for up to three relatives, so a family of five could receive a maximum of $ 6,000. We do not think this is a likely outcome of the final bill, given that it has fizzled in the Senate without being addressed.

Like the CARES Act, the Republican plan outlined in the HEALS Act would provide $ 500 for each addiction, but does not specify a ceiling on the number of addictions.

Who did not receive a stimulus check according to the CARES Act

For the payments approved under the CARES Act, which became law in March, these groups are excluded:

  • Individual taxpayers with an adjusted gross income over $ 99,000
  • Managers for households with an AGI over $ 136,500
  • Married couple with an AGI over $ 198,000
  • Children over 16 and students under 24
  • Non-resident aliens, as defined by the US Government

How long until Congress decides on requirements for stimulus control

Right now, the timeline for discussions is up in the air. Talks between Republican and Democratic negotiators on the new stimulus package stalled, but the two sides have signaled their willingness to take up the debate. The Senate is on hiatus until after Labor Day but the House returns to work, so the chances of a deal in August seem unlikely, but a deal in September is now in the picture. Once the parties have reached an agreement, the stimulus proposal will not enter into force until the president has signed it into law.

Although we do not know for sure until the two sides agree on the next stimulus package, we have a good idea of when a check could be sent if a new bill passes.
