Congress has not yet agreed on who will have a second incentive check, but it is expected that more will be included a second time.

Who is eligible to receive one second stimulus control for up to $ 1,200? Talking about passing next financial relief package has not yet resumed, and there is no new calls on the agendaand leaves that question unanswered at the moment. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said he would like the talks to start again on Saturday, which is when the House is planning a vote on independent legislation to provide financial support to the US Post Office. It is not clear if calls will resume.

When they do, we think it is likely that at least one group of people who do not qualify to receive money during the first round of payments may be eligible to be paid in another round. But until we know the size of a final package, it is unclear what impact it could have on you and your family – a narrower bill can leave you completely out.

Legislators agree that there is a need. The Department of Labor’s latest statistics find it up to 40 million Americans face eviction – It’s about the population of California. In addition, new unemployment claims have numbered close to 1 million or more in 22 consecutive weeks.

“In the 97 days since we passed Heroes Act, 4.1 million more Americans have been infected and 86,000 more have died. Today, nearly 28 million Americans are unemployed, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday in a statement to Democratic colleagues. The Hero Act was passed in the House of Representatives on May 15 and was not retrieved or vetoed by the Senate.

Determining the exact eligibility requirements for a new stimulus control will be a crucial issue when and if calls are resumed, and some people who were not entitled to first stimulus control may qualify in a new round. Read on for everything we know right now. This story is updated regularly.

Second stimulus control: Possible requirements

Although we do not know for sure who will qualify for a new incentive payment until the legislation has been adopted, we can deduct first stimulus check eligibility requirements to get an idea of who may or may not get a second check, including income limits and number of dependencies.

Both Republicans and Democrats use adjusted gross income, or AGI, to determine the amount of payment for individuals and families, which would be $ 1200 for individuals and $ 2,400 for married couples.

Who may qualify for the next stimulus check

Qualifying group

Probably in the final bill

Unlikely in the final proposal

individuals

An AGI of less than $ 99,000 under all proposals.

X

Household managers

An AGI of less than $ 146,500, under all proposals.

X

Couples filing joint income

An AGI of less than $ 198,000, under all proposals.

X

Depending on all ages

No dependent limit specified under the HEALS Act.

Up to three relatives, according to the hero law.

Non-citizens who pay taxes

X

Proposed in the hero law, which was not taken up by the Senate.

People who are imprisoned

X

The CARES law excludes this group.

People who owe child support

X

The CARES law excludes this group. The team of heroes would include them.

More dependents may be eligible for a second payment

The CARES Act took a narrow approach to defining an addiction and allowed a $ 500 payment only for a child aged 16 or younger in the family. HEALS and Heroes Acts both have a broader definition and allow all addicts you claim to qualify for a payment – college students, children over the age of 17, disabled relatives and taxpayer parents.

The democratic plan described in the Hero Law would cover $ 1,200 each, for up to three relatives, so a family of five could receive a maximum of $ 6,000. We do not think this is a likely outcome of the final bill, given that the Senate has not addressed it.

Like the CARES Act, the Republican plan outlined in the HEALS Act would provide $ 500 for each addiction, but does not specify a ceiling on the number of addictions.

Who did not get the first stimulus check

For the payments approved under the CARES Act, which became law in March, these groups are excluded:

  • Individual taxpayers with an AGI over $ 99,000
  • Managers for households with an AGI over $ 136,500
  • Married couple with an AGI over $ 198,000
  • Children over 16 and students under 24
  • Non-resident aliens, as defined by the US Government

When will Congress decide on stimulus control requirements?

Right now, the timeline for discussions is up in the air. Talks between Republican and Democratic negotiators on the new stimulus package stalled, but the two sides have signaled their willingness to take up the debate. The Senate is on hiatus until after Labor Day but the House returns to work, so the chances of a deal in August seem unlikely, but a deal in September is now in the picture. Once the parties have reached an agreement, the stimulus proposal will not enter into force until the president has signed it into law.

Although we do not know for sure until the two sides agree on the next stimulus package, we have a good idea of when a check could be sent if a new bill passes.
