Konami is a legendary game developer and publisher. Metal Gear, Castlevania, Contra, Silent Hill—The rear catalog is one of the best in the industry. Konami is also known for being one of the most hated companies in the industry by the players themselves, following the dubious publishing practices and consumer monetization strategies of recent years. Konami now manufactures gaming computers. Va.
The news broke from Konami̵7;s Japanese website and showed three models of “Arespear” gaming computers at three different price points. ATX cases look good (at least I think so), although their prices are quite high. The bottom-of-the-line system with a year-old Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and a mid-range GTX 1650 is 184,800 yen (about $ 1,750). A comparable pre-built gaming computer from CyberPower is only $ 850. The higher level machines are not priced better, but there are also Arespear-labeled keyboards and headsets.
Exactly why the prices are so high is not clear – maybe these nice cases take a lot of dough to make. Konami is no stranger to the game’s hardware, um, games: much of the company’s business now comes from the manufacture of slot machines, pachinko machines and other gaming machines. It is uncommon for a game publisher to sell gaming computers themselves, although brand partnerships are quite common.
While Konami’s console, mobile and PC game publishing has declined quite a bit in recent years, they have invested in new development as recently as last month. All three of the company’s Arespear computers are now pre-ordered. Do not expect to see these sold outside of Japan, at least not anytime soon.
