Lenovo's latest ThinkPad X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga Slim Down and Style Up – Review Geek

The ThinkPad line is full of workhorses, and Lenovo's most sought after customers like that. But even a workhorse can wear a little glamor. This is the case with the latest advanced ThinkPads, the latest updates to the X1 Carbon flagship and the X1

Yoga convertible presented at CES.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon (7th Generation)

The 7th gene ThinkPad X1 Carbon new aesthetic touch means that it finally sees the part: the cover, usually a soft ornamental product or similar finish, now shows the carbon fibers in the ultra-light frame below. It's subtle – almost too subtle to look at the picture below. But Lenovo's representatives say it is so that the "Carbon" brand is more visible with what customers expect, from similar applications in sports cars and advanced bikes.

The carbon fiber makes it amazingly easy for a 14 inch machine at less than 2.5 pounds. Nevertheless, Lenovo succeeded in including fingerprint authentication, CAT-16 LTE wireless and a 15-hour battery for normal use. (As always, take that estimate with salt grains.) The screen, often a low point in the ThinkPad line, looks brilliant: the one we tried had a 4K panel with 500 light levels. Users who do not need sharpness can choose a 1080p screen with a new powerful 400-nit mode.

Lenovo is particularly proud of the new speakers integrated in the keyboard piece, certified for Dolby Atmos and packing disks and subwoofer. While they do not flourish in any way, they are a remarkable improvement in clarity and spread compared to last year's version. The PrivacyGuard feature detects prying eyes with the webcam and warns the user of people who might be looking at their TPS reports. If you are worried about remote espionage, a hardware hatch cover goes from the older design. And, of course, it comes with the latest 8th Intel core processor.

The new ThinkPad X1 Carbon will be available from June, with a base price of $ 1709.

ThinkPad X1 Yoga (4th generation) 19659003] ThinkPad X1 Yoga, now in its fourth revision, is much more up to date: it uses a full aluminum alloy body. This allows Lenovo to shave all its dimensions and combine it with the ultra-thin frames, it's now among the smallest 14-inch laptops around. It's strange to see the usual utilitarian brand that is part of something so good, trendy, but the simple body looks good with the classic keyboard and design elements.

Yoga is just under three pounds, motivating its higher price with the convertible form factor and the integrated stylus. The new version is also compatible with all Lenovo ThinkPad docks, providing a simple mechanical connection to a larger desktop installation. X1 Yoga can also be configured with an LTE radio, and it includes the camera trigger and the PrivacyGuard feature. It will come in June for $ 1929 to begin.
