LG V40 ThinQ problem and how to fix them



LG V40 ThinQ is another well-rounded flagship from the company that deserves much more recognition than it gets. It is also one of the few units with a focus on providing a fantastic sound experience and of course offers everything we have expected from a current generation's advanced smartphone.

But as is the case with all smartphones, this device is also not without problems. We've rounded out some of the common LG V40 issues faced by the owners, as well as some potential solutions on how to fix them!

Limitation of Liability: Not all owners will face these LG V40 issues. In fact, it is more than likely that you will not encounter any of these problems at all.


Problem # 1
– Camera Issues

There have been some Camera-related LG V40 issues reported since the device was launched. Some users have encountered blurred photos or a lot of delay when trying to take a picture. Some users have found that the device does not switch to the telephone lens as expected. Others have also seen the images grainy, with a green cut and pixelated.

Potential Solutions:

  • The blurred images and layer appear to be due to some settings that are enabled by default as Auto Super Bright Mode and Auto HDR. These features allow for some nice images, but if you are looking for better focus and faster shutter speeds, you may need to disable them until a software update addresses this issue.
  • Regarding problems with the telephoto lens, more often than not, it works as expected. Something to remember is that it needs bright light conditions to work and may not do it indoors.
  • Finally, if images look like grainy, pixelated, with green edges or with vertical lines, it is probably a hardware problem. The best option here is to download a replacement.

Problem # 2 – Problems with automatic brightness

Some users have found that the automatic brightness feature does not do it "t work as expected. users found that brightness does not go below 11 or 12 percent, even though it is in very dark areas, this was a problem with the LG V30 and LG G7 and also seems to be one of the most common LG V40 problems.

Potential Solutions:

  • This seems to be a calibration problem with the Auto Brightness feature, and when you are in a dark area, manually set the slider to zero even if automatic brightness is enabled, and now automatically switch brightness and continue, and everything will work as expected.
  • However, there are some versions of the device that do not allow the slider to be adjusted when automatic brightness is enabled. brightness, set the brightness manually to a low level and activate the function again.

Problem # 3 – Problems with security features – Fingerprint scanner and face lock

Features like face lock and fingerprint scanner have generally been fast and accurate for most users, but some have had problems using these to unlock their devices.

Potential Solutions:

  • You can simply try to erase and remapping fingerprints stored on the device, and you can even store the same fingerprints twice, which has worked for some users.
  • In other cases, the cleaning of the cache has done the trick. Go to Settings – General – Phone Management – Device Storage and press Internal Storage. Then tap Cached data and clear it.
  • For some users, the type of screen protector you use acts to affect the performance of the fingerprint scanner (as well as the feature forever on the screen). If the screen protector is the type that covers the chin with a black border with clips for only cameras and speakers, it affects the AOD function and the fingerprint scanner as a result.
  • The face lock seems to work without problems, but the users have found that an image can be used to trick it. To avoid that happening, make sure you select "Advanced Mode". If the face lock does not work, you can scan your face several times for better accuracy.

Problem # 4 – Connection Problems

As with any new device, connection problems with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are common LG V40 problems as well. Both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth problems are common with this device.

Potential Solutions:

  • One of the most common issues with the LG V40 has been related to Wi-Fi connectivity. This issue seems to be related to the aggressive battery saving mode built into Android 8.0 Oreo. Go to Settings> General> Battery> Power Saving Exception and make sure Wi-Fi is added to this list. You can also add other apps and features that may not work as expected due to battery saving mode.

General Wi-Fi Problems

  • Turn off the device and the router for at least ten seconds.
  • Use Wi-Fi Analyzer to control how crowded your channel is and switch to a better option.
  • Forget the Wi-Fi connection by going to Settings> Wi-Fi and long tapping the connection you want and then selecting "Forget". Enter the details and try again.
  • Make sure the router firmware is up to date.
  • Make sure the applications and software on the device is up to date.
  • Enter Wi-Fi> Settings> Advanced and note your MAC address, and make sure that access to the router's MAC filter is allowed.

Bluetooth problem

  • For problems when connecting to the car, check the manufacturer's manual for the device and the car and reset your connections.
  • Make sure you do not have an important part of the connection process.
  • Go to Settings> Bluetooth and make sure nothing needs to be changed
  • Go to Settings> Bluetooth and delete all previous presets, set them up again from the beginning.
  • For problems with multiple device connections, only a future update can handle this problem.

Some software problems have no solution now. The only option is to wait for LG to solve the problem in an official update. In some cases it may be a hardware problem, in which case the only option is to retrieve a replacement.

  • Messages not received – Some users have noticed that there is a delay in messages arriving on the phone. This seems to be a problem with the app LG Messages app. Users have found that the Google Messages app or any other option works well but until an update fixes this problem, it is best to change your default messaging program.
  • Problem with Smart Lock – Even when users have Trusted Places configured, they have found that the feature does not keep the phone unlocked. This is a GPS problem and a restart generally fixes the problem, at least for a while. Smart Lock has always been quite hit and miss and it doesn't seem to be different with LG 40.
  • Green sharpness displayed on the screen – A few users have noticed a green ignition at the top of the screen so eventually becomes more opaque and covers the information on the screen. This is definitely a hardware problem and the only option here is to get a replacement.
  • A static sound from the speaker – Some users have noticed a cracking or static sound from the speaker, even if the volume is not set to the highest level. This is another hardware problem and the device should be replaced for a new one.

  • No applause: Outside the box comes the LG V40 without an app box. All your apps spread across the home screens, and using folders is one way of keeping things organized. Fortunately, LG offers a simple solution to take back the appliance and you don't have to switch to another launcher to get the app box back. Go to Settings> View> Home Screen> Select Home> Home & App Cache .
  • Appscaling: The display of LG V40 comes with the nust standard ratio of 18: 9. But some apps do not use the entire screen and leave black bars at the top and bottom. App developers have updated their apps to meet this aspect ratio and score. LG also has a solution. Go to Settings> Display> App Scaling and you can enable "Fullscreen (18: 9)" on any app that supports it.
  • Hide the score: If you're not a fan of the tick, LG gives an easy way to hide it. Go to Settings> Display> New Second Screen .

Wizards – soft reset, hard reset, launch in Safe mode, wipe cache partition

Soft reset

  • When the screen does not respond, hold power button and volume down for 10 seconds or until the unit is restarted.

Hard reset

  • Turn the unit off.
  • Press and hold the power button and volume button. Release both buttons when the System Restore screen appears.
  • Use the volume keys to navigate to the factory data reset and press the power button to confirm.

Boot in Safe mode

  • When the phone is on, press and hold the power button until the power off options appear. Press and hold the "Shutdown" option until a confirmation appears and press OK. This will start the device in Safe mode.
  • Press and hold the power button and volume down button. Release both buttons when the System Restore screen appears. Use the volume keys to navigate to Safe Mode and confirm.

Wipe the cache partition

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the power button and volume button. Release both buttons when the System Restore screen appears.
  • Use the volume buttons to navigate to the Wipe Cache and press the power button to confirm.
