Sure, Samsung has some foldable phones under its belt now. And Microsoft̵7;s phone gives you the dual screen effect in a foldable way. But LG’s “Wing” phone goes completely differently. It turns out a second screen to form a T, and the company wants to tell us more on September 14th.
If you think far back to the first Iron Man movies, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) had an odd phone. At first glance, it looked like a regular candy bar phone for the day that Nokia popularized. But with the push of a button, the display tilted out to a horizontal layout.
Unlike the transparent phones that would replace it in the sequels, the flippant phone is real. It’s LG VX9400, a feature phone from the past. And LG’s latest phone clearly takes design inspiration from its older brother.
Some leaks have shown us a better picture, but you can see in LG’s teaser video the basics of the concept. What appears to be a regular Android smartphone is transformed by sliding a second screen horizontally to form a T with the first screen.
Someone might want to let LG know that Microsoft already has the “rotating screen that shows a wave” aesthetic covered. Wing’s form factor can provide some interesting usage case scenarios, but only if LG has the software to back it up. We’ll learn more when LG unveils a full release in a YouTube live stream on September 14th and we’ll give you the details.
