Just over a year ago, Logitech Harmony Express launched universal remote systems. The company promised that it would simplify universal remote configuration and provide voice control for your entertainment and smart home. Now, Logitech will discontinue Harmony Express on September 30, 2020. After that point, all Harmony Express units will stop working. The good news? Logitech has a free compensation for you.
Harmony Express wasn̵7;t a bad system, but it wasn’t good either. Logitech managed to create a universal remote system that controlled all the things in your house that are still easy to install. But Harmony Express relied heavily on Alexa for control and expected you to give up all other control over your entertainment system.
If someone in your family does not like talking to their TV, they may inadvertently ruin the experience for everyone else, as Harmony Express could not handle when another remote switched sources. That, and probably low sales, seems to have led to its downfall. In the email sent to users today, Logitech explained:
In 2019, Logitech launched the Harmony Express remote. With Alexa Built, Harmony Express aimed to replace the complexity of the touch screens and programmable buttons found on other Harmony remote controls with a simple voice interface.
Unfortunately, our expectations have not been met for this type of Harmony remote, and as a result, we have decided to focus our efforts on our basic user experience: powerful universal remote control in a world with many devices connected to the TV. For this purpose, we will to cancel Harmony Express on September 30, 2020, after which the Harmony Express units in the field will no longer work.
As a valued customer, we want to minimize any inconvenience to you. Starting today, Harmony Express owners can get their unit replaced with a Harmony Elite, for free. Harmony Elite is our flagship experience with a powerful programmable AV controller and smart home control that works with other Amazon Alexa devices to enable voice control. Alternatively, Harmony Express owners can request a full refund of their purchase price, which is subject to proof of purchase requirements.
The Harmony Express app and your Harmony Express remote control will remain operational until September 30, 2020, after which the service and remote control will stop working. Harmony Express owners will receive direct notifications and reminders via email between and then.
We value your business and are committed to getting your reimbursement or refund as soon as possible. Thanks again for your continued support.
The email contains instructions on how to get a replacement Harmony Elite. For corporate credit, Harmony Elite is the best choice and is $ 100 more than Express. It is not as easy to install and does not include Alexa built into the device. But the latter point can be an advantage in the end.
