While AT&T is gradually showing off the power of its 5G technology in the US via Magic Leap One, another big wireless company does the same in the UK with the fashion world.
At this month's London Fashion Week, the British wireless company Three collaborated with designers to showcase one of the first fashion show shows, enhanced by images delivered through its 5G network and through the Magic Leap One.
The event featured the clothes of up and coming fashion designer Gerrit Jacob, whose runway show was framed by magnified reality imagery seen by audience members wearing the Magic Leap One.
Presented at Central Saint Martin's Art School in London, movie star Andrew Garfield ( The Amazing Spider-Man and Social Network ) were among the 10 people in the audience who simultaneously carry the AR unit to take in the show.
It is of course always difficult to fully desc ribe a Magic Leap One experience without the headset, but three uploaded part of the experience, developed by immersive content studio Rewind, on Instagram.
"We ran a multi-user experience where low latency and a consistent relationship were necessary. Each headset, plus the video clip for the event screens, must be synchronized – 5G was important to keep it on track," says Greg Furber, the leading creative director at Rewind, to Next Reality.
"The biggest challenge was to make sure the show ran in time with the models. To allow this was experience of mixed reality divided into sections and animation loops run by Rewind Mixed reality Showrunner, he was responsible for keeping the mixed reality team in time with the course. We had to build a custom control tag that ran the experience from the gallery. "
So far, most of the chatter we heard about 5G and Magic Leap has come from AT&T through their experience and upcoming support of a consumer version of Magic Leap One. But Tre can help deliver the same type of 5G immersive database to European users through projects like these along with Magic Leap's internal law.
"We work closely with Magic Leap and they supported us with access to hardware," Furber says. We have some other really exciting projects in the pipeline that involve Magic Leap hardware, but unfortunately we can't say anything more right now. "
For those who could not make the London Fashion Week show, there will be additional opportunities to try Treas 5G networks in combination with the Magic Leap One starting in March at the company's flagship store in Oxford Circus.
