Visitors to the Unity booth at the game developer conference in San Francisco will receive a special boost in reality with the help of the Magic Leap and Weta Workshop.
On Monday, after revealing the disclosure in a blog post last week, Magic Leap was revealed Grordbattle, a multiplayer extension of Dr. Bordered Invaders who make one to four players into characters from the game and pits against each other in virtual warfare. Unity booth will be the exclusive site for the first look at the multiplayer experience.
"Even in the tail end of developing the game, we began to realize that we really wanted to explore multiplayer and get people to share their experiences," says Weta Workshops Greg Broadmore, game director for Dr. Grortbort during an interview on Unity keynote preview.
"At Magic Leap One you are still in the real world, you can still see everything around you, but you have this unique experience, and no one else could see it. So we immediately wanted to solve that problem."
The new game mode is an early prototype of any multiplayer experience for Dr. Greenlandic Invaders may eventually appear. In Grordbattle, players can choose between one of the four main characters in Dr. Bordered Invaders to wear as a virtual mask within the AR experience. Each avatar reflects the player's eye movements via the Magic Leap's eye tracking technique and mouth movements based on voice recognition.
"It is quite surreal, transformative experience and so we are very happy to show people because I think it is kind of signs something that is very exciting for the future for spatial data processing," says Broadmore.
A demonstration of the prototype will be available exclusively at Unity booth # S227 Wednesday to Friday between 10am and 1pm Pacific at GDC Outside these times, participants will still be able to play Dr. Grordbort's Invaders .
In addition to the prototype sample, Thomas Hall, a senior programmer for the Weta Workshop, will reveal some insights into developing The multiplayer mode in a "flash" on Tuesday (not yet revealed)
Several user experiences are a rapidly developing ability s Magic Leap One. Last week launched a company that was founded by the current Magic Leap-workers Spatiate, a målningsapp that connects multiple local and remote participants in the AR space. And earlier, Magic Leap released Avatar Chat, the company's AR video call, which now supports three-way calls.
But the Weta Workshop is the first developer to play a game on multiplayer games for the device. After receiving an award for technical achievement in submerged games (losing to another Magic Leap One app, Tonery), Weta has suddenly increased the bar even higher for the future of AR games through Magic Leap.
